I had to completely overhaul my layout for this engine too! It's worth it though!

I am a little jealous of all the members that could afford an engine like this.  On the other hand running this engine on my PRR branch line is a little bogus.  The biggest engine on the branch line was the M-1a.  I have it as a TMCC, I would like this engine in Legacy.

When you do get to running it, and if you like running with the smoke on, I suggest you stock up on smoke fluid.  Last weekend, at a train show, I went through a whole bottle of Megasteam plus a little from a second bottle.  They are seriously thirsty!

Looks great.  I wish I could run one that big, but I'm not going to rebuild my layout again.  My largest curves are O63, with some O54 on the inner rails.  I'm just now rebuilding after selling my hangar and moving to a new workshop/trains building.  Besides, my Texas 1930s, 1940s, 1950s motif could not include the Big Boy, and I have no Union Pacific engines.  Big Boy did not exist in that location at that time.  I envy your parameters, but have to stick with what " brung" us.  More power to you.

yes good luck with your big boy engine, I'm still waiting for my upgrade kits as they are Ps1's but run great just can't run them on dcs until i convert them. I want to run a double header.!

Congratulations, and Welcome to the Group of Toy Train Enthusiast that Like Big Steam in a Big Way. My suggestion is to run it slowly around your layout so as to make clearance adjustments. Also, I hope you have a Legacy System to utilize all the really neat features Offerred by Lionel. This engine, is a Grand Slam Super Nice Engine. Enjoy. Thanks for Posting the good pictures.  I have to thank everyone for their comments and suggestions. To be honest I have to thank a lot of you fellows as I could not afford this w/o your interest and purchase of my bridges and structures.

 As you can see in the photos, I have put the Big Guy on the tracks only for photos at this time, still has the protective Styrofoam around the wheels. Will put into operation as soon as the 072 curves are complete.

To be honest, I have run mine just about everyday since taking delivery back on Christmas Eve. 

It is an epic locomotive, one with a dazzling array of features and details.

Congratulations. I also sold to acquire, but have no regrets. I also don't have the minimum radius, and test ran on straight, and later laid out a 40 feet of straight Fast Track on floor. Impressive piece of workmanship. In fact have to keep reminding myself its only a toy. It has a place under glass in my library now, but will see action again, and also to impress my friends that drive sport cars, but don't have a "Big Boy".

I would not be jealous. We are $2000 lighter. Yes, I bought one. The good thing is that I can run it but can't leave it up since only  my mainline is 0-72. I need to make change to my layout. The last time I spent this much money on a train set I did not buy any trains for 3+ years.

When I get my MTH BR-44 which will need O-72 I may bite the bullet with my tax return and get a Big-Boy!!!

I love the Big Boy! I still haven't got to run mine much yet because I've had to redo my layout to accommodate it but here's a short clip I recorded last night:

We have 9x9 but once we take it down to put up better saw horse legs we plan to make it 

12x9 but your seems to have a nice lenght!!

I'm not quite sure how to put it. It's 41' long at it's longest point and 15' wide at it's longest point. There's an image of it here.

I've had mine now for a few weeks, and couldn't be more pleased. Makes everything else I've gotten look like the toys they are.

As written above, you only live once. I've made other choices like this in my life, and have never regretted them, as they add to the overall quality of my life. Sometimes you have to be adventurous.

And yes, my still under-development Still Hollow Junction has been re-worked with two outside O-72 loops instead of one to be sure I can stay off the porch and keep playing with the Big Boys!

Jim, I add my congratulations to your BB purchase.  I had originally passed on purchasing one when it was announced last year as I borrowed a friend's earlier version and found I would have to rebuild 11 places in the layout to accommodate the overhang!  Then mid year, I decided to do a complete rebuild of the layout - down to the table tops.  But it was past ordering time for the BB.  

Then late last year, as they were arriving at dealers, some were advertising their "extras".  I, too, said Steve's, MrMuffin's, was too good to pass up and went for it.

It is here and I'm just as impressed with it as are all else of you.  But, now that it is here, and I've measured the needed 2 1/2" overhand from the outside rail, I am making sure I have the clearance I need as I move forward with construction!

And Jim, I am just about ready in the re-construction to start assembling the elevated track structures I bought from you.
