I’m with Bill, except I was thinking you don’t have Tehachapi Pass on your layout, so I was confused. Easily done! 😄
Thats great the Ross folk can keep the rails polished. My guess is Joe keeps the railroad running smooth as silk!! 👍🏻

Lebanon, Indiana train show.
miles: 140
One day northwest of Indianapolis.
My first time at this show.
Walked into the building and it wasn't very large but found out there were 2 buildings.
left side.
right side.
Several tables of brass available.
Got to see some 'different' layouts versus the usual that are in my 'area'.
Builder plates.....
but, at 1500 bucks each, I'm guessing he took most them 'home'.
A very nice display by NMRA of all the scales and gauges.
G scale.
I bought the center Burlington 2-10-4.
Lots of steam engine parts.
Leon was the seller.
2nd building.
Nice selection of bridges.
More brass.
Good price on Tortois at 15 bucks each.
N gauge
Functional tornado!
New Trolley system being developed.
Joe and I stopped at, I believe, it was MLC restaurant.
Very nice 'buffet style' and very good, home made type food.
Booty.
I wasn't expecting to buy anything but so much for that 'theory'!
4 sets of Central Valley heavy weight passenger trucks.
They made very nice trucks: fully sprung and functional side frames.
For my brass passenger cars, if I every get 'around' to painting them!
Tons of steam brass parts.
Overland's motor/drive system for steam engines.
I bought a bunch of brass steam parts and Leon said: I'll never sell the rest of these so just take them all.
He 'talked me into it'!
Some 'loads' for my ore cars.
Never have too much 1/16" diameter heat shrink tubing!
I didn't need this but Leon had a very reasonable price so I couldn't refuse!

Burlington M-4A 2-10-4 LED and decoder install.
Video: 'yard test'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP7k-I0XcRA
The LED's were installed and glued in place yesterday.
TCS 1517 decoder installed in tender and building an 8-pin connector.
This tender had no headlight or marker lights.
Rectangular hole made for the 8-pin connector.
Drilled/tapped a 2/56 screw hole to attach the red wire to the frame.
Frame wires soldered. The other 4 wires get a 4-pin connector to operate via functions the headlight/cab light, marker lights, running board lights and the fire box glow LED operates independently from the decoder.
Programming track.
Comprehensive screen.
Light screen.
Basic screen.
All's 'good'.
Saved to roster.
Headlight and marker LED's routed via heat shrink tubing with 5 short pieces for future PM.
I forgot to take pictures of the remaining LED installation.
Fireman's side view.
Will have to see if I can remove the 'ghost' on the decals from the previous person who painted this engine.
I used Scalecoat 'loco black' which dries 'dull' to 'touch up' several 'paint chips' on the model.
Used the nearest draw bar hole so 'near scale' distance from cab to tender.
Lighted cab shows the back head detail.
Engineer's side view.
I only have 3 other Burlington engines.
An O-5B 4-8-4 imported by Oriental Limited in 1987.
Painted with TCS 1517 decoder and the usual array of lights.
An O-5 4-8-4 imported by Overland models in 1982.
Painted but not converted to DCC.
Pioneer Zephyr imported by Con-Cor in 2005 with TCS 1533 diesel decoder installed.
Attachments
As always, first class upgrade. Looking forward to seeing more videos of the 2-10-4. How about doing a double header with one of the O5 4-8-4's? In the 1960's, the Burlington ran an excursion with 4-8-4 5632 and 2-10-4 6315. I'm sure your engines would look great double headed on your layout to recreate this event.
RAY
Ray,
Thanks for the kind comments. I don't do 'double headers' as, rarely, do they run at the same 'speed' plus I weight them pretty well to run 15-44 car freight trains. Also, if the front coupler is present, it's usually a dummy and doesn't mate with the Kadees.
Southern PS4 4-6-2 imported by PFM (United) in 1976.
Can motor, LED's and decoder install.
Decided to 'work' on this engine.
Whoever painted this engine did a professional job.
==========
Open frame motor replaced with a can motor.
Back head added.
Had to trim the sides and bottom for the back head to fit in the cab.
Some JB weld used to secure it to the boiler and foam to hold it 'in place' until the JB weld 'cooked'.
Holes for the running board lights.
A very fine drill bit, used first, to drill out the marker lights.
Manually enlarged the holes in the marker lights to prevent 'ripping' them from their mounts.
LED's (0402's) glued to headlight and marker lights as well as running board lights and cab light.
Tender headlight drilled.
Hole in deck to route the LED wires.
Rectangular hole cut for the 8-pin connector.
Canopy glue used to secure the LED's.
TCS 1517 decoder installed in the tender.
Attachments
Southern PS4 4-6-2 imported by PFM (United) in 1976 and GN S-1 4-8-4 decoder and LED prep.
=============
Southern PS4 4-6-2:
Almost final assembly!
Heat shrink tubing for the head light and marker lights.
Usual extra 'wire' for future PM.
LED's for headlight, running board lights and cab light soldered to a 4-pin connector.
Seats added.
Had to move the motor to cut some excess motor mount to route the wires past the new back head and leave the new caulk on the motor 'cook' before final assembly.
===============
GN S-1 4-8-4 imported by Tenshodo in the 70's.
TCS 1517 decoder, new can motor and LED's install.
I have at least one of all my GN classes converted to DCC but 'missed this one'!
I added the 'glacier paint'.
This engine has the functional 'power reverse' where the mechanism moves 'up and down' for forward and reverse.
One has to be close to the engine to see the 'movement'.
The old PFM contact is mounted on the driver retaining plate.
A collar on one drive supplies the 'movement'.
I re-motored and put in a Sagami motor in this engine along with PFM sound many 'moons' ago.
Replaced the larger can motor with a smaller can motor so the 'back head' will fit in the cab.
Had to cut a 'slot' in the motor mount to route the wires past the back head.
JB weld used to secure the back head.
Original rectangular hole made larger for the 8-pin connector.
Tender head light drilled and 0402 LED installed.
Marker lights and head light drilled for LED's.
The old candescent bulb had to be removed.
Cab light and running board lights installed.

Southern PS4 4-6-2; final assembly.
Video: 'yard test':
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfgjBU7hL3w
Wires soldered to the 'frame' side.
Programming track.
No 'use' putting the boiler on the frame if I have the motor wires 'back wards'!
The back of the motor 'just' fit in front of the 'back head' with about a 1/16" to spare!
I had to 'clip' and bend the two motor 'tabs'.
The yellow tape was removed after the caulk was cured.
The 'fire box glow' LED is the only 3 MM LED; the rest are 0402's.
Another engine where it was easy to route the wires 'out the back'.
Front view.
MMM: have to repaint those marker light wires, again, after the paint got 'scraped' off when routing them through the marker lights, etc. Paint them black so they look like the prototype wires 'running' to the headlight.
Fireman's side view.
Not easy painted 'white walls'!
Near scale distance between engine and tender.
Interesting how the camera focused on the caboose versus the engine!
Cab detail.
Top views.
If this was a GN engine the domes and all that piping would need to be painted black!

Tender:
TCS 1517 decoder with tender head light.
Rectangular hole below the tender deck makes for a nice location for hiding the 8-pin connector.
Engine frame;
Female 8-pin connector made and connected to the frame and motor.
Programming done and stored in the 'roster'.
Test before boiler 'added'.
Motor contacts taped and drilled/tapped for frame ground wire.
Heat shrink tubing in short sections to get the running board lights to the top of the boiler and then route to the back of the boiler.
Large lead weight.
Smoke box cover installed and tested.
All LED wires routed to the back of the boiler and soldered to the 4-pin connector.
Ready for assembly.
Back head, deck plate and crew installed.
