I noticed that TrainWorld has a few of the USRA and SF road names in stock. I preordered the Great Northern version from Charles Ro but haven't received it.  The Lionel shipping schedule doesn't have the Pacifics listed (even though the 2-8-8-2s from the 2022 catalog are). Lionel could have shipped some of the road names but hasn't completed the others.  Any additional data points would be helpful.  Thanks.

Did not want to leave you hanging with your post.  This showed up today.  I have not run it yet.  I got the 4 car heavyweight hospital car set and the US Pacific to go with it.  MASH is my favorite TV show and this appealed to me even if it’s has no tie-in to Korean War era military hospital logistics.

For scale-ish, the Y3, the Mikado, Challenger and the Pacific…the Pacific is my least favorite.  But I liked if for the Army hospital set.

I can’t wait to see what L does with the Mikado. I just love it’s proportions.

I just received mine from Charles Ro. Unfortunately, they shipped me the wrong Road name. I decided to take a look at it anyway because I was skeptical as to whether it would actually come with a Kadee pad for scale coupler on the tender as it was reported that it would. I've been burned by these types of things by Lionel too many times so I thought I'd check before returning it to Ro. Guess what's NOT there?  There are two holes on the rear of the tender, but they look too wide for a Kadee box. I looked for an adapter plate and there was none. No mention in the instructions of it either.  I'm very disappointed.

I received my GN pacific this past Thursday. After unpacking, lubing and priming the smoke unit with 20 drops of Lionel Premium fluid I can report mine runs well and smokes as a Legacy engine should. The Legacy whistle is much improved over the original TMCC version of past years. As hoped for, the Legacy control allows the engine to start smoothly with a load of cars instead of jack-rabbiting like the TMCC versions tend to do.

I looked at the tender and there are no "factory provided " holes to mount a Kadee coupler box. There ARE two "dimples" on the bottom of the coupler buffer on the tender that are very close to the dimensions of the Kadee "S" coupler box that could be used as a guide to drill mounting holes up from the underside if one so wished. I haven't decided whether I'm going to keep the electrocoupler as delivered or mount the Kadee down the road as I have an "adapter" car I use to allow pulling either consist whether the cars are Kadee equipped or claw equipped.

@jonnyspeed  That's not good that it doesn't come ready for Kadee couplers.  What do you plan to do to fix this issue?

Thanks, Mike A.

Hi Mike,

I'm sending it back for a refund. I have too many projects already on the workbench that I can't get to. I've done the conversion on the old Pacific and Mikado already. I don't want to do it on a new Legacy engine as there are only about 10 goofballs like me out there that want High rail with scale couplers. Would kill the resale value IMHO.

Hi all

I test ran my ATSF and  GN today and everything worked as advertised I was impressed by the smoke unit on both units best  legacy smoke so far!

sound was good whistle and bell where excellent.

lighting is excellent  and boiler flicker is very nice, all in all a very good addition.

How's about a picture of the Great Northern 4-6-2 out of the box?  I'm curious as to how Lionel did with the green boiler jacketing.  They've done a terrible job with the green on some of the O Gauge models.

Rusty

Thanks for the comments Rusty. I have a GN on order but was uncertain how close the colors were. My Santa Fe was shipped from Ro last week. I am beginning to think Fed Ex Home Delivery has routed it through the Panama Canal to the west coast.

Toy1, I see you are a good Lionel customer for their FasTrack. It works well with the Legacy control system and allows using equipment with scale wheels.

Hi Tom

yes I originally used S helper fast track but they never expanded their switch offering only 20 inch. radius, when Lionel came  out with there 27inch  radius I decided to switch.

I liked the S helper roadbed but it is what it is.

27 inch  allows me to run all  of my Lionel steam.

I agree the R27 is preferable, both visually and operationally.  As an FYI my Legacy Berk and Y3 along with the earlier Pacific's and Mikado's handle R20 with no problems.  I always thought is was a mistake that SHS didn't follow up with R24 and R29 turnouts.

Rusty

Even the Challenger and oversize Big Boy navigate 20" R track but that does not mean they look good doing it. I have a lot of SHS sectional track in all three radii. It really is too bad the wider radius SHS turnouts were never put into production. At least we now have the Lionel 27"R turnouts.

I also ordered a new PRR Y3 which the catalog shows in green. My original PRR Y3 and PRR Mikado's are PRR green and it takes good lighting to tell they are not black. Just as PRR steam engine green should be. I hope the new release is still the correct green.

Got the NYC version today. The loco was "stuck" in the Styrofoam cradle until I realized it had shifted forward and jammed into the foam. Nothing to prevent it shifting around during shipping forward of the headlight. Fortunately nothing broken but at one point I thought it had been glued into the cradle. Haven't run it yet but what's up with the 20 foot long rear coupler? Makes Gilbert claws look practically prototypical...NYC PacificPacific Coupler Comparison

That the Electrocoupler for remote uncoupling using the Legacy remote because to many folks can't enjoy model railroading with the old fuddy-duddy manual coupler.

Flyer Manual Coupler 042122 [2)

The Electrocoupler's design won't let it be mounted further in.

The Big Boy, Challenger, Y3 and Berkshire all have electrocouplers that protrude less than the new Pacific appears to protrude. The best (least projection) is the Berkshire. I chose to not add electrocouplers on my older TMCC Pacifics and Mikados because of how far the coupler would protrude out behind the tender. I was hoping Lionel would find a way to address this on the new Legacy version. My Pacifics are STILL in transit with FedEx Home delivery.

My Santa Fe Pacific was delivered last night, here are some pictures.

The three tenders on the roundhouse tracks are, left to right, the Legacy Berkshire, the new Legacy Pacific, a 2006 TMCC Pacific. The Berkshire wins the (lack of) coupler projection contest.

The undersides of the TMCC tender (top) and the Legacy (bottom) are shown. Had Lionel completely redesigned the coupler mounting arm the most they could have improved the coupler was 3/16”. Note the safety chains from the side frames to the chassis are not included on the Legacy tender. The IR transmitter is visible, it is nice to have, the engine programs the Legacy base by just passing it over a Sensor Track. Plus the Sensor Tracks issue preprogrammed action commands to the engine when it is running.
