Need help regarding no-smoke issue with 6-29870 Lionel operating Jet Snowblower

Not familiar with these, it is pretty cool looking piece of rolling stock. I have stayed away from the rotary plows because they are so darn high off the rails.

If no one has any ideas worst case install a small MTH smoke unit inside?

I am not overly technically adept.  I would replace them with original Lionel parts, but not talented enough to install an MTH smoke unit.   No tip-over issues with this one.. its basically a redesigned work caboose.

You don't need a smoke unit unless it's physically damaged.  Actually, the top suspect would be the smoke regulator.

You also want to replace the 6 ohm resistor with an 8 ohm smoke resistor.  The 6 ohm resistors were killing the regulators, too much power.

John, THANK you for answering my question!!!  I was really hoping this would catch your attention.   I'm glad the regulator is listed on Lionel's parts list (I guess I'll go ahead and fork over the $30 for it.)   I know ZERO about doing this sort of work, but hopefully I can also just go ahead & find an 8 ohm resistor on the Lionel list, too.  There's no sense in me trying to possibly find it somewhere else cheaper (or being forced into buying 10 of them!)  LOL!  Thank you again!

I'd probably spring for the smoke motor and fan impeller on the same page as well, they're cheap and could be suspect.

Otherwise I don't see those listed among the parts for the 6-29870 Jet Snowblower.   (Searching for Lionel parts is far less than user friendly.)

I am not finding them available either, hopefully you don't need them.

John, I took the snowblower apart before ordering any parts.  I conclude, however, that this job is above my pay grade.  While it looks like replacing the resistor is easy, I  really can't trace where the all of wires go that lead from/to the smoke regulator.  The one in the Lionel parts photo shows four wires; 2 black & 1 Brown & 1 red.  My regulator has five; 3 blue & 1 red & 1 brown.  Plus, the opposite ends of some of them appear to be hardwired into two white plugs connected to the smoke generator.  I don't know how to handle all that!  This has been one of my favorite operating cars, but after 12 years of careful/minimal use I am sad it has died.  I'll carefully reassemble it & perhaps someday bring it up to you at Hennings?   Thanks, Ron

Not sure why they used non-standard colors, but the smoke regulators have five wires, and two of them are grounds.  The one you see with four wires means the extra ground isn't connected, but it's cut off for many applications.  Also, one is for serial data, which obviously isn't used in this application.
