Have not been  in train room for a few months. Everything was working well last time. I have one tiu , on version 6.1,operating in passive mode with three outputs connected to layout. I cannot seem to get a DCS signal. I have no other loco on track and I cleaned track. The locos always starts up in conventional mode. I checked DCC/DCS switches.I disconnected and hooked up to a single track powered with MTH power block  via tiu input and again no DCS signal.Loco starts up in conventional. Tried a PS2 locomotive , with good battery, and PS 3 locomotive. No luck. Carefully took back off TIU and ensured no fuses burned and inspected antenna board. All looks ok. All connecting nuts look tight.Looking for suggestions. Remote when reading sees the tiu and right version, but no loco on track I reset tiu and even reloaded software version 6.1. I may be missing something as I havent used trains for a while, although no changes in wiring have taken place.Do I need to get a new tiu?

I think the next step would be to take the TIU and hook it up to a single piece of track and see if it works. You need to rule stuff out before buying another one. It does sound like the signal is not there but there could be another reason. You don't want to damage a new one too.

Have you changed the wiring at all? Is there something new drawing power? Etc., etc. What's your power supply?

I'd try one of the GunnrunnerJohn signal testers first, because I have one.  If I didn't have one, then I'd disconnect all outputs from the TIU, and connect one of them up to a short length of track on the workbench, and see what happens.

I did disconnect all outputs and hooked up to a clean length if track on bench. Same conditions, no dcs signal, tried many PS2.0 and 3.0, all come up as conventional .I am going to reinstall 6.1 software to see if that helps.

No change in wiring.Nothing new added. Using Lionel power bricks connected direct to track via 2 TPC 400s,I run command only.No problems before.

Al,

Some questions:

  • Is the TIU's red LED lit?
  • How are you powering the TIU?
  • Which TIU channel are you using?
  • If you press READ, does the remote find the TIU?

TIU red light is lite.TIU address is 1. Powering TIU via aux power , I have tested this and it is ok.Remote finds the TIU fine, reports correct software version ,6.1.
