I have a VRE/Fredericksburgh F40PH diesel which I have put a GO shell (20-2512-1) on.I want to change out the sound file from the VRE to have a GO sound file.I have connected all as per instructions.

I uploaded the current sound file from the VRE and saved it on my windows PC.

I found the powered unit in MTH product locater , 20-2512-1, and downloaded and saved the PS 2.0 sound file and saved in on my windows PC.

However when I go to upload ( transfer) the new file to the VRE everything connects and a message comes back " unable to proceed as file is 2 mb and unit only has 1 mb". I have tried many times, reset and I keep getting the message. The VRE was catalogued in 2010 and has the square charging port ( not the round peg version).

Is there anything I can do? Is it possible the receving engine does not have enough space. Both locomotives were catalogued as same time and have same charging port so I assumed they were similar.

How can I tell if 3V or 5V may be an issue causing issues.

Would it be possible the GO sound file is jsut larger and I cannot download to the VRE?

I have swiped out other sound files but steamers.

Appreciate any help.

Al

What is the part number of the VRE engine? It sounds like your engine is a PS2 5 Volt board and the sound file is for PS2 3 Volt board. The sound files between the 3 volt and 5 volt engines are not interchangeable. Now it is still possible that you have a 3 volt engine and your 3 volt file is too big as your engine may only 1 Megabyte of ROM space and the file is 2 Megabytes in size.

Easy way to tell if your engine is 3 or 5 volt is by the charging port (or lack there of) on the bottom. If it is round you have  5 volt board and a square two pin port indicates a 3 volt board. I usually look at the battery replacement section of the owners manual which will tell you if you have a 9 volt or 2.4 volt style battery.

Well, first off, I have absolutely no experience with the equipment or software you're using and will cheerfully defer to any suggestion made by someone with specific knowledge, but the error message you're getting is pretty clear: the file you're trying to upload is too large to fit the space available for it.

If the file you're attempting to upload was supposedly designed to be uploaded to your system, I have no suggestion as to what might be wrong (other than that you *may* need to erase the current file to make room for an upload -- usually, any upload will just erase and overwrite the old file, but your setup may differ), but if you're trying to upload a file *not* specifically designed for this unit, it's apparently too big to fit and you'll need to make it smaller. There's really only two ways to do this -- either shorten the file by trimming its duration, or lower the quality of the sound file so it takes up less room. Both of these can be accomplished by most sound editor software programs (I generally use the freeware Audacity for such tasks). Good luck!

The receiving VRE unit has a square two pin port. The message does say the engine only has 1 Mb while the file is 2 Mb. Interestingly all the sounds on both VRE and GO ( I have another GO unit) are very similar other than destination announcements.

The VRE product number is 20-2011-1

Cannot seem to find any info on ROM size.

Hi i have ran into a similar situation in the past and contacted mth and they told me to retry and start up dcs loader again sometimes the loader will say it's a 5 volt when indeed is a ps 2 3-volt retrying corrected the issue! or it would say it's a 1meg board but in fact it's a 2 meg board! it's easy to tell on a ps2 3-volt board the 2-meg ram  is a SHARP if not sharp it's a 1 meg board!
