Hi.  I have a MTH Premier SD70ace that I need to repair.  I need to remove the side frame from one of the trucks and replace it with a new one.  I'm assuming this can be done relatively easy, but in this hobby even the easiest things seem to become projects.  Can anyone walk me through the process?

Thanks,

Bill

How about an actual product number?  Earlier trucks had the sideframe screws on top of the truck, later models have the screws you can reach under directly.  If you see the two truck screws from the bottom, simply remove them and the sideframe falls off.  If the screws are on the top, you have to pull the shell, drop the truck using the one motor mount screw, and then remove the sideframe.

I just looked at my SD70ACe like yours. The side frames are easily removed without removing the cab or dropping the truck. The two screws that hold it are clearly visible. Also, the part number is DB2104029001 for the right side and DB2104039001 for the left side frame. Email Midge Wilburn at MTH and see if she can help you. (midge@mth-railking.com) You can see all the engine part numbers from the MTH website. Go to service, then parts.
