Hobby in the gutter

Hi,  I was walking out to my car when I came across these pieces of track in the gutter. I know they were in bad shape but I just couldn't leave them there. I picked them up and they'll find a home in my miscellaneous box. I wonder what became of the rest of the train.

Similar story here many years back down the road day before garbage curb pickup i saw an old prewar lionel box in decent condition including its graphics being tossed with regular cardboard boxes so took it home.

It says Lionel outfit # 133 which i believe had the prewar 262 engine / tender , small tank car , gondola and caboose.

Have on shelf an original 262 engine /tender with the 2green /cream -607/08 observation car  just not sure what box that set came in.

A pal of mine ran a street sweeper in a big city for years, and he used to find all kinds of interesting (but moistly disgusting) stuff on the curbs.

He'd found several train-related things over the years. He once told me he'd found at least 3-4 complete train sets in the box in gutters, in various conditions of course.

The one thing he found that we never could figure out was an original WW2 German general's peaked cap. It never made any sense why someone would just throw away something that valuable. He sold it a while back to help pay for his son's college.
