@leapinlarry posted:@harleyhouse, I’m glad you brought this up, Cornerfield Model Railroad is actually on my bucket list, how far would you think this store is from Pittsburgh?, my thoughts are around 105 miles? So, maybe Mark and Rick might want to make the trip, 2 hours there, 2 hours back, it’s maybe….. I’ve seen many pictures of the Cornerfield layout, but in person is always more interesting. We will see.
if you haven’t seen the layout at The Carnegie Science Center, it’s fantastic, 30 feet by 80 feet, well landscaped, 24 inches off the floor, lots of displays on the walls, everyone working for the model railroad was very friendly and helpful. Here are a few pictures I took. The lights go from daylight to dark and the layout displays 4 seasons. Happy Railroading Everyone
Larry, thanks for posting the pics from the Carnegie Science Center. The layout is truly fantastic. I especially liked seeing the model of Forbes Field. Never went there, but as a Cubs fan I watched a lot of games from there on TV. I still remember that they would broadcast in black and white, as the lights were insufficient for the color cameras back in the late 1960s.
My recollection of visiting the Carnegie Science Center is that aside from the layout, the rest of the museum is aimed at ages 14 and younger. Did you find this to be the case? (That's not necessarily a bad thing, as long as visitors are prepared for it.)
