Heck yes! Simply because my teenage son is a huge Godzilla fan.   He owns every movie - some in the original Japanese, a bunch of figures, and a huge autographed poster from the cast of the 2014 Gareth Edwards movie.   The only two scenarios in which he has interest in trains is either military trains or when Godzilla is destroying one.   So yes, I'd get one if for nothing else than an inside joke for my son.  And yes, we already have out tickets to the first premier showing the day before the official release at 4:00 pm.   Hey, time with our kids is priceless and I already play with toy trains so I could care less if I'm the only over 50 yr old person in the theater!

How about a Godzilla operating accessory?  Maybe a train could run over his toes and he would cough out some lightning

If you are on a computer, 1st copy the full address from the URL (starts with https:\\ogrforum.....) when you are reading that thread.  If you want to link to a specific post, find it and hit the pull-down for "Permalink" from the "Take Action" link at the bottom of each post.  This will cause the address bar to reflect an address that takes the user to the exact post instead of the top of the thread.

Once you've done that, when replying, hit the little "chain link" looking icon in the toolbar for the new post.  It will spawn a window asking you for a URL and Text to Display (it also asks for a Title, but you can leave that blank).  Paste the address in the "URL field.  Put text in the "Text to Display" field (something like "Godzilla link").

That's it.

Here's a link to a post with Godzilla playing with a train, (2 pics at the end of the post) but I doubt that's the one you meant.

As to the desire for a car, it would seem a natural candidate for a bobbing head type car.

A scale Godzilla car would be problematic due to clearance.  He's about 164' tall... the 1950's version.  This scales down to over three feet on your layout.   Now Baby Godzilla would be tempting... but still a problem.  So what about an egg?  A female ostrich is about 6' tall (172") and its egg about 6" on the longest axis.  So that's about a 12:1 ratio.  For 164' Godzilla this would be a 14' egg or about 3 1/2" on the layout... manageable to model I think.

So you could envision a scenario where evil biotech, InGen (from Jurassic Park fame), captures the whole clutch of eggs from Godzilla and loads them on a train to take them back to their labs for analysis.  That alone would set off mother Godzilla and send her into a rampage!

Back in my grade school days when I was running N scale I had Aurora plastic models I built of King Kong and Godzilla on my layout.  For Kong I removed the Fay Wray / Ann Darrow figure from his hand and placed the empty hand onto a tall church steeple with his feet balanced on the A peaked roof and a small toy passenger car cradled in his other arm.  I had Godzilla entering from the outskirts of the city heading for the inevitable confrontation with Kong!

I don't know whatever happened to those models.

Again, this is something I've never understood about what they call in N scale "Foobies": trains decorated in made-up schemes just because they may sell.  This seems to be particularly common when it come to 3-rail. I get it, in that these are part of the "toy train" field, but seriously? Aren't there enough "real" paint schemes (both past and present) to satisfy?

On the one hand, we see threads about how the latest diesel release doesn't have the proper intake grids (or whatever); the sound or smoke isn't "right"; or the color of the tender deck doesn't match the cab roof. We want/demand prototype detail, but then are also willing to populate our layouts with rolling stock which has no basis in reality whatsoever. I just don't get it.  

I know, this is only a hobby, and hobbies are meant to be "fun", and "to each his own", but I would rather see shrinking resources go towards making models of previously unavailable "real" trains. Think of what could have been done with the $$$ it took to develop and produce that "Batman" train: heck, that dough could have been used (maybe) to fix and re-release a "corrected" 2-6-0 Mogul: a small-ish steam locomotive that (I bet) many of us would like to have...

If we're going to now start basing product releases on current movies, I fear the end of the hobby is near.  As "D500" posted earlier: "...how about not?"

Mark, I run only modern scale Diesel engines with some steam and older diesels sprinkled in. 

But having a Godzilla scale freight car is not the end of the world. I will gladly put one on my layout and into a train if available. I say why not, it's fun and besides I really like Godzilla who has been a icon my entire life growing up. 

I have seen every Godzilla movie except for some of the Japanese language ones. Of course you don't have to buy one if ever built and if built it even may add to the bottom line of Lionel or MTH to build something you like.

I'll say it's 2 different approaches to the hobby that define the 2 types of items you are discussing. (Believe it or not, not all O Gauge hobbyists have the exact same tastes and interests! )

Obviously the prototypical ,scale, rivet counting is the camp where any remotely different prototypical item is welcomed, but most "fantasy" items are shunned.

The other approach is just "lets have fun, and I don't care if it's prototypical, I think a boxcar with this graphic on it is fun".

The "I'd rather see the resources applied to scale stuff"  and " I don't get it" comments (quite prevalent on this board in past discussions) obviously is the scale/prototype/rivet counting line of thought.  Many times it seems this line of thought is exclusionary of the "fantasy" stuff. (thinking that somehow if the "fantasy" stuff is not made it will lead to more prototypical items making it to market in their place, which may not be true - the train companies actually do know markets, believe it or not.  If they never sold, they would not make them!)

I think most people into the "lets have fun" approach are more accepting of the other prototypical stuff, and just don't order the scale stuff if they don't have interest in it.  I don't recall too many people saying "I wish Lionel never offered that N&W K engine, (it's so similar to the J!), they could have offered a Star Wars train (or whatever the favored commemorative or graphic boxcar might be) if they didn't waste resources designing the K".

There are some of us who appreciate both aspects to some extent.  I'm not a rivet counter by any means, but appreciate scale type trains (nice steamer with passenger cars, logging trains, the new Golden Spike offerings, etc), but I also have a boatload of "special run" non-prototypical boxcars and the like.

I have some questions relating to the movie clips/still that John Pignatelli posted:

1) does anyone know whether the trains he's eating in the movie still are actual model toys or just some kind of mock-up?

2) in the movie clip the two characters running away are wearing surgical-type masks - I often see people of Asian descent still wearing them today (I'm in NYC); is there some historical significance to this?

3) did Godzilla check beforehand to make sure that that bridge was rated for the weight of 164 foot tall monster before crossing it?

Possibly due to SARS and Bird Flu in the early 2000's, at least for the state-side question in recent history.  A quick web search turns up multiple articles on this.

Back to the concept of a Godzilla car, now that I saw a commercial last night, it seems there are some of the other monsters involved too.  So I'll update my suggestion of a bobbing head car to a see-saw car with Godzilla on one end of the see-saw and one of the other monsters on the other end.

Godzilla in a giraffe car would be pretty funny. They fit an oversized head in for Lenny the Lion; so why not? 

  I could be wrong but I thought they did some "wrap art" poster style movie graphics like the batman/spiderman subway cars.

  I think we have three or four good sized Godzilla scenes posted and a couple that climb out of the water for a "visit" every now & then.
