Well I have crossed over and hooked up my first DCS TIU and remote. I have the latest TIU version L and the latest software.

I have installed the TIU per the instructions using the transformer to fixed input 1- fixed output 1 to track. was able to add the read and confirm the TIU recognizes  remote. Placed the engine on the track. Add engine, found engine... and away it went. Things are good.

added in two more engines... and did a test on track signal... all 9s and 10s. Legacy is also hooked up on the track and all is good with them.

I have a 30 X 30 layout and the TIU is under the table. As I walk about 15 feet away from the TIU I cannot blow the horn/bell/brake/ or change the throttle. Take a few steps back towards the TIU and I am good to go... go a few steps away and happens again. Run a different engines same thing...

Is there a way to extend the remote to TIU range? Does the remote need to be in the relative "line of sight" of the TIU?

swapped out the remote with a brand new one... same thing, only 15 ft to 20 ft of range.

Is there a way to extend the remote to TIU range?

Yes, there are a couple of ways.

One way is to orient the TIU so it's mounted vertically, with the USB port end pointed up.

The other way is to open the TIU, drill a small hole in the top above the antenna wire, bend the antenna up 90 degrees, and replace the top with the antenna poking through the hole.

Does the remote need to be in the relative "line of sight" of the TIU?

Yes, that would be best. Any obstructions, such as walls, tracks or other material things will weaken the 900 MHz signal and decrease range.

DCS Book CoverThis and a whole lot more about DCS is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!

I have new batteries in it. I am going to try the upright stance. Maybe move it to a more central location. Right now its under the table, and behind a ZWL, a curtain, a mountain, a trestle, a couch, some boxes, and so-on and so-on... still in the range testing phase.

Have to say though, after reading all the horror stories, the system is pretty robust.
