The engines look very attractive, and have a lot of features.  If you purchased one, how do you like the diesels?

Also, does anyone know how the size of these units compares with the postwar F3's?.  I know the catalog says 13" for "each car", and, 26" for the FT AA set.  That seems to be about the same size as the postwar F3 AA's, but a dealer told me that the units were slightly shorter than the postwar F3's.

At this price point, Lionel may have decided to make the locomotives slightly smaller than the postwar F3's.  Has anyone compared them?  Thanks you.

Have both. The FT is 1/2 inch shorter than the F3 and is wider and taller than the F3.  The FT also has more cast in rivet and screen detail than the F3. The FT uses the same trucks and truck side frames as the F3 as well, just replace the universal motor with a can motor for the FT.

There are pictures on the forum comparing the two.

I love my Santa Fe set and I plan on getting the B-Unit in a few weeks. Lionel actually has them listed as Semi-Scale under the product specifications, however I'm not sure how accurate the website is sometimes. They look fantastic, sound great, smoke really nice, and the slow crawl is indeed my favorite feature.

Pardon the basement floor layout, but I'm in the process of getting my new table up.
