Now that both lionel and mth have their daylights and prices up in the new catalogs  touting there respective features. My question is how much is an operating system worth?
Let me start by saying upfront I prefer legacy over dcs. With oddesey 2 you get slower more smoother starts.(IMO). The quilling whistle is great. Legacy rail sounds are the best and in conjuction with cab 2 and sequence control virtually play themselves.
Also prefer infrared tether over mechanical tether of mth's.
Mth dcs3.0  is two rail and dcc compatable . Plus the choice of scale wheels vrs. high rail wheels is also offered. The lack of a quillable whistle is odd since they have done it on other premier steamers. The mechanical drawbar is an improvement over the old wired tether.
I feel both operating systems are what they are just operating systems nothing more. A company's method for controlling their trains that is compadable with their respective remote systems.
Now with all that said. Why does lionel think legacy is worth $200.00 more than dcs3.0?
If lionel added ashpan glow and whistle steam I could see the asking price but they did not!
Is legacy with quilling whistle and oddessy 2 that much better than dcs that they feel  with out the exstra features they can still get the 1300.00 msrp price? This is comming from a lionel guy who likes legacy mind you! What do others think about this subject?

That must be why the Lionel conventional 0-4-0 "shifters" in lollypop paint schemes are $499 and MTH Railking imperial B6 0-6-0's are $399 with Proto-3.
