I am looking for suggestions on a switch to use to disconnect power for a siding.  We are running LionChief trains, Fastrack and the wall power supplies for FAstrack.

I was thinking of using the smallest Fastrack piece with the jumper wires and wiring some kind of button or light switch type thing to flip so that the power could go on and off to park or move engines in and out of the sidings but don’t know what to use.

i realize this is not advanced layout wiring but we are just getting started.  Thanks for any suggestions.

I have done this for several years, by just cutting a notch in regular straight sections and adding a toggle.  You can place the toggle in either position on either side, and turn the track to suit your need for the current setup. If you aren't using the toggle switches, it's just a regular straight when the switch is "on".

I saw these being discussed in another thread on this board - do these look like switches that would work for the application I am describing?  They would spend 99% of their time in the "open" position so that I can have engines and cars stored on sidings without being powered and only switch them on to move them onto or off the layout from the siding.

Thanks for walking an electronic illiterate through this.  Wait until I start asking about interconnecting separate fast track loops . . .
