"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

I've been tempted myself by N scale.  My last N scale layout was in the early 1990's.  The current tempting factor, is that Kato makes Amtrak Viewliners!  Come on Lionel or MTH. Please make some O gauge Amtrak Viewliners.  Keep me in 3 Rail O.

Eddie,

The layout looks great.   Have fun with it!  You picked the right track system.

Eddie, Thanks for the information about the double crossover.  I was out in Pittsburgh last week with out my computer and it's too much of a pain to reply from my phone.  Your layout looks great.  Today I picked up a Tamiya Pin Extractor Tool.  It's supposed to fit the Kato plugs and allow you to remove the wire and pin from the connector and allow you to reuse the connector.  I was looking for a way to avoid drilling 3/8 - 1/2 inch holes to run the plug through.  If this tool works a 3/16 hole should work.  The tool is sold by E-flite Part number EFLA215  It sold for $20.00

I tried out the new tool last night.  First thing I did was install the smaller diameter tube and plunger.  The barrel fits a little snug and took a little effort to get it all the way in, but once it was in the right depth all it took was a push on the plunger and the pin pops right out.  Reinstalling the pin is simple and with the help of a small screwdriver to seat it, it was as good as new.  I found that by pushing against the edge of a board made it easier to push the barrel into the connector.  I give the tool two thumbs up.

I made the mistake of cutting the connector off of our switches. I purchased Kato extension cords so I could use them to replace the butchered cords. But the bottom covers don't come of that easily. I think I rewired one pair of switches. Someday I'll get around to doing the rest. It's been a while since the Kato track was packed away.
