First off:  I want to apologize for my number of threads recently, and I want to thank everyone that replied.  I am a "details" and "research" type of guy.  I can't make any major purchase without researching it first.  That's just how I'm wired.

The big brown Santa sleigh delivered this to me Saturday.  I found it on the TCA x-change.  A very nice gentleman pre-ordered it with the intention of redoing his layout so it could fit.   After a few years of realizing that wasn't going to happen, he decided to sell it.

When I started looking for one of these:  In a perfect world, I wanted 4012.  I grew up near Scranton, PA where 4012 resides at Steamtown.  I had my hands on her last year.

4012 is what this gentleman had.  It was still sealed in its factory shipping box.

I didn't pre-order one of these back in 2013 because it wouldn't fit on my layout.  I recently joined an O-Gauge club.  As I was helping set-up their large modular layout the thought came to me, "I could run a Big Boy on here!"  So, my quest began.  I also want to be able to watch and hear it run at home so my next project is building a roller display.  I hope to have that done in a few days.

I want to thank everyone again for replying to all my questions.

UPS's shipping box.

Congrats, Rick. I purchased a 4012 when they came out and have loved it since. Wait till you hear the whistle. In general, I don’t use smoke in my engines, but I did try the main steam and whistle steam on the Big Boy and it looked spectacular. And I would strongly second MED’s caution on the overhang - even on O-72 and O-84 curves, the front of the boiler swings pretty wide of the track. In addition to the items he suggested to look at, I would add check clearance on trains running on close, adjacent tracks.

Enjoy.
