"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

The other day someone said they had over 400 MTH engines.  My thought was, 'If I bought one of all the 'O' Gauge motive power that was issued since 1970 through 2000 how many engines would I have?'  Because I don't have that many years left I limited the quest to Lionel (PW reissues, New 'O' Gauge tooling and Scale issues other than MTH contract 89-94 more or less), Williams, Weaver Atlas and MTH.

These are probably almost but not quite accurate numbers because it all depends on how you count especially with Lionel.  These totals include diesel, electric and steam.

The answer turns out to be:

Lionel (PW reissues, 24, new 'O' Gauge tooling, 30 and Scale, 15 plus 12 with MTH).

Williams (Brass, Aluminum and ABS, 39).

Weaver (all, 39 including 26 with MTH).

Atlas (2).

MTH (71).

The final number is 232 different items produced  from 1970 thru 2000.  I did not bother putting prices with the units but I am confident you would be north of $150,000 if you were the proud owner of one of each.

If someone has more accurate estimates please share them.

For MTH engines, did you count just one engine or all the available road numbers.  Such as the first Northerns had three designations; Chicago, Modesto and and a third which at this time slips my mind.  John

I only gave them a (1) for each type of engine.  If they did multiple road names or engine numbers they got a (1).  When Weaver did the Brass SP Daylight 4-8-4, the black one and the Western Pacific if memory serves, I bought all three but for this discussion it was a (1).
