If I lost a remote for LC or LC+ engine...

Yes, you can replace the remote if damaged or lost.  Also the universal remote (available for about $40-50) can be used with any LC or LC+ loco, and will control 3 separate such locos, which is an advantage.  All newer LC and LC+ locos from here on in will also have Bluetooth which can be operated from the free app on any smart device (telephone/tablet).  Nothing to worry about if that's what you are getting at.

No reprogramming involved.  Universal remote automatically links to the loco with press of a button.

Well, to tell the truth, I am going to attempt a PCB replacement on an LC plus. However, that project is in preliminary phases, still researching and this post, is part of that research. But this is one concern that is now removed  - thanks!

I am a huge fan of the Lionel universal remote.  It will run any LC and LC+ with the recent upgrade.  Easy to use and operation is perfect.   Great product, great work tool.

Why buy a remote? just download the LC+ app

Perhaps because the sets before this year don't have BlueTooth and won't work with it?

I think you miss the point of the original post.

If someone is looking at buying a replacement remote, it's because they have a LC set. Otherwise they wouldn't be looking for a replacement.

Hence the reply, just download the LC app.

I don't think you caught his point.....   Not all LC, nor all LC+ have Bluetooth so loading the app does no good. There is no Bluetooth receiver in earlier models.  And maybe, just maybe, they use a button phone or landline too

Someone recently pointed out the universal remote couldn't do a MU with the universal, it required the original, but that is the only limitation I've read about so far.

Gentlemen,

MartyF gave you the correct info, with the recent upgrade the Universal Remote will run any LC & LC+ engine.  If you loose your remote, purchase the Universal remote, upgrade if necessary.

I still want Legacy to run it all however and so far that Lionel engineering does not exist.
