If they stop the handheld, without making the Wi-Fi bulletproof (and by bulletproof, I mean plug and play. Not time the power up sequence. Not look for the electronic interference that only messes up the DCS WI-FI, not the other Wi-Fi in the house, that will probably end my love for DCS. Ah well... time will tell. They make amazing hardware. I’m not gonna mess up my Sunday evening on that prospect.....

They last offered the remote/receiver pairs about 7 years or so ago.   (I have in my records I picked up mine around June 2013).  This was the remote that was just for the purpose of controlling the Z4K, which I think came out with the receiver before the TIU and remote for DCS became available around April 2002.

When MTH offered these, I believe they acknowledged it would be the "last run" for those components.

Occasionally I've seen just the receivers for sale (I've bought one here, one at York over the last few years), only thing you can really do is keep on the lookout for one.

Happy hunting!

Dave/all - I understand the reality of where MTH is today. That said, I am hoping that if enough people want to embrace DCS and Conventional, they might listen.

The forum header says MTH sponsors this specific forum. It’s not a stretch to hope they read it. If they don’t, we can restrict out topics to the more general forums. No need for a “wishes about products forum”

Between speed control, starter set quality and imo superior trucks, MTH is amazing. The future is in better control. If they let Lionel get too far ahead pfft. They won’t be able to compete.

Here's the link at the MTH website for the Receiver (40-4002):

https://www.mthtrains.com/40-4002

Looks like it first came out in 1999, but not sure on when the last run occurred.

If you really want one, the only place I ever see them (usually used) is on eBay and it typically runs between $30 and $40 bucks.

I have one hooked to my Z4000 transformer for over 10 years, and it just works, first time every time.

I've become so used to it, I actually forgot it was even connected...

While we're on this subject, ever notice that with the 40-4002 Receiver when plugged in, You no longer get Amp readings on the Z-4000, it displays the letters AC in the Amp display for each Handle instead.

I'm assuming this happens for all Users, or I'm I the only one...???...lol...

Inquiring minds would like to know...

In the manual, it says it's RC, for Remote Control.

See Item 6 under Setup and Operation.

Hey Dave, Thanx, cause my old tired eyes would swear it was displaying AC, versus an RC.

In my case I don't use the Z4000 Remote (cause I don't have one).

I use the DCS Remote via the 40-4002 Receiver for wireless control of track Voltage on the Z-4000 Transformer (Z4K Tracks).

I've been using the Receiver for so long, I don't remember where or when I got it, or if a User Manual ever existed for the 40-4002 Receiver...LOL...

Just to clear up any confusion, the Manuals posted are the setup for using the Z4000 Remote and the Receiver and Z4000 Transformer, it does not show you how to setup Z4K Tracks on the DCS Remote and the 40-4002 Receiver (with the Z4000 Transformer).

To do that you can reference the DCS Users Manual that accompanied the TIU, and on Page 65 it gives full details on adding, and naming Z4K Tracks to your DCS Remote with the Receiver, allowing you to vary individual Handle voltage to your Tracks. I don't think I've touched the Handles on my Z4000 transformer in over 10 years.

Again it has been so long since I set this up, I had to do some research to jog my memory on how I did it originally...LOL...
