Does anyone know how to retrofit older Lionel Birneys with the one-piece solid slide shoe to these nice new rollers?

It would be nice to be able to switch the microscopic Peter Witt Trolley rollers with a larger roller, but I see no easy way to do that.

They actually have been using the roller setup on some of the trolleys for some time. My zombie trolley got them and so did My Coca Cola trolley and they are several years old now. I guess it depends on the price point determined by Lionel.

Hum! Interesting.
I have a Lionel 6-28415 Bumper Trolley. It looks good, but it is a terrible runner because of its slider shoe. My goal is to save this Brill from the scrap yard display by somehow grafting its body to an MTH bump-n-go trolley. By far, the MTH bump-n-go trolley mechanism is superior. However, if somebody comes up with a practical roller pickup installation for the Lionel car, then I will try it on this 6-28415 Brill.
