Installing a Kadee on a Lionel docksider pilot

Near-1/8" will provide sufficient "meat" to tap for 2-56 threads. The trick will be to drill just enough so you don't break through.

CA does not provide strength in shear, so I wouldn't go that way. If you use CA, you can cut it with careful application of acetone.

I'll give it a try.  Worst case, if I break through, that's what JB Weld is for!

I've added Kadee's to a few 0-8-0's. Not sure what you are dealing with on the Docksider. I'm assuming it has a pivoting front coupler. After removing the coupler. I use the mounting hole for the coilcouplers T bar and clip. I use a piece of brass stock tapped for the Kadee and also tapped I believe 10 32 for a screw to hold the Kadee mount in place using the stock coupler mount. The washer is there to get the correct height. I use some brass stock to hold the Kadee centered on the pilot. Just cranking the screw tight is usually sufficient.

I did this recently on mine as well. I drilled and tapped the chassis and used the underset couplers.

That looks really good.  I've just finished up the body, and am about the tackle the couplers.  Hope mine look that nice.
