I'm bashing/detailing a Lionel docksider, and would like to use Kadee couplers.  The front one is the problem: the metal on the frame/pilot is not even 1/8" thick, which seems like not enough "meat" to screw into.  Anyway, I don't want to drill too far and end up with holes or screws visible on top.  To make matters worse, the pilot is a little low, so I'd need to use an underset shank, leaving no room for a spacer.  Is there any way to fix the coupler box from below?  I'm hesitant to simply CA it in place, in case I ever need to open it up.

I've added Kadee's to a few 0-8-0's. Not sure what you are dealing with on the Docksider. I'm assuming it has a pivoting front coupler. After removing the coupler. I use the mounting hole for the coilcouplers T bar and clip. I use a piece of brass stock tapped for the Kadee and also tapped I believe 10 32 for a screw to hold the Kadee mount in place using the stock coupler mount. The washer is there to get the correct height. I use some brass stock to hold the Kadee centered on the pilot. Just cranking the screw tight is usually sufficient.
