My friend has a pair of GP38-2 powered/dummy engines (three rail, if it makes a difference) but the instruction sheets for the engines are long gone. He still has the detail parts (railings, horn, etc.) which is good. Does anyone have a scan of the instructions that come with the engines that could provide them. Also, will the couplers come out at the correct height for three-rail trains? Thanks.

As I recall, most of Weaver's instruction sheets were very basic. Diagrams for where the railings go, and some history on the prototype. Until you get into late production, the engines will be conventional, i.e. not command control. Turn it over and look at the underside. Do both trucks have gears in between the road wheels, or is there a brass rod running through the fuel tank that connects the trucks together?  If you see the brass rod, it is almost 100% certain that the engine is conventional. The reverse unit of choice was from QSI. There may be a switch near the fuel tank. That could either lock the reverse unit into one direction, for reverse the direction the engine first starts. You are going to have to play to see exactly what version you have.

Good Luck, and enjoy!
