I discovered an interesting quirk that affects both of the remote Thomi I acquired recently.

These things have a "chuffing sound" - well, sort of: to me, each "chuff" sounds more like a rifle bullet being fired than anything else.  NBut it slowly chuffs at idle and the rate speeds up as it moves faster.  That's probably enough for the target market and the price range.

Anyway, it is a really annoying sound so most parents are probably happy to see that under the detachable cab roof there is an OFF-On switch for the sound.

Except the switch only affects the sound when the loco is moving.  On both Thomi, with the switch set to OFF, the loco still chuffs slowly at idle, just as before, but then turns silent anytime it begins to move: turn it to ON and idle is no different, but now it chuffs faster as it moves.

Strange . . .
