Decided to assemble one of my accumulated Intermountain 1937 AAR Dbl Dr Boxcar kits.

Having trouble interpreting the truck assembly instructions...without any diagram(s) provided to assist.

Is there a YouTube video...or something akin with photos...showing the steps/process?

Also, they have 'short' and 'long' spring pans provided.    Not sure which is appropriate for the specific kit...1937 AAR 40' DblDr boxcar...or whether it's simply arbitrary.

I may replace these with diecast metal trucks. I'm not really keen on the use of plastic wheels for the long haul (I've backordered some I/M 33" metal wheelsets).  The  provided trucks frames/bolsters/details, though, are nice moldings...too nice to not give them a try.

Thanks for any interpretive/visual help...

Spring pans are arbitrary. The way that worked for me is insert the bolster into both frames. Insert your choice of spring pans. They sort of snap into place. Install the inside springs with the brake shoes then the outside springs. Takes a slight bit of effort to push in place. If you use the long full width pans insert from the outside of one frame across to the inside of the other frame. The snap in the brake rigging. The delrin can be bent without breaking. Last insert the wheelsets. If you use the 3 rail wheelsets you have to omit the brake rigging.

Ah, well, thanks, Pete.  As you were writing your helpful hints, I finally figured it out...trucks assembled...roll nicely.  Definitely hope to replace the plastic wheels with their metal 33" replacements when available.  As built, though, they roll very nicely.  Although I rather miss the metal (wheels) on metal (rails) sound....part of the 'shtick' of the hobby, IMHO.

BTW...any clues/hints re the 2 styles of journal box covers provided?  IOW, what styles/mfrs/?? do they represent, and does it really matter which are used on any particular car?  If certain railroads were inclined to use one over another, I guess that goes waaaaaay beyond my picking of nits.  Even if it's a date-oriented choice, I'm ambivalent...just curious.  With the nice write-up in the kit on the basic 1937 A.A.R. car history, design, usage by various rr's, it's curious why they didn't throw in a sentence or two re these journal covers.

Those trucks with the metal intermountain wheels are very nice.   They roll great and are equalized.     They are also at the recommended NMRA bolster height for O Scale.     All of the trucks sold by the 3 rail mfg are at different heights from the standard, and from each other.

As for the journal covers, like you I have not idea.    If you look at photos of the car you are modeling, you might be able to see something.   The same for the pans.

Yes...that's what I was working from.  After starting this thread...and about the 10th reading of these instructions with parts in hand...I finally mastered the assembly process. 

Not a bad truck assembly, actually.  Roll very freely.  But, I'll be replacing the plastic wheels with metal ones once the backorder is filled.
