I don't know that specific K-Line set, but assuming it doesn't have sound, the ERR board is the way to fix that.

Hello and Welcome...  I did a little poking around and found this information on K-Line Texas Special trains.  It indicates they should have railsounds.  FWI.  I would recommend ERR as your first choice for sound.

   Welcome to the OGR, as time goes along you will want a Command Control train layout, here on the OGR is the best place to learn about it, we have both DCS and Legacy sections and they are great.  Nice to have you here!

Thank you all.  Charly, I did check the site you suggested but it is the more elegant version of what I have.  When I pull the chasis off, there is no speaker.

Adding an ERR system is not that difficult if you are mechanicly inclined and know something about electrical work. You might want to have a newer transformer with whistle and bell features to get the most out of the ERR sound unit.

I too did some looking, including a book I have on K-LINE. The set you have is an un-cataloged set produced in 1996. It should not have any sound or horn.  It quite possibly was produced in limited quantities for hobby retailers. I did see that it was sold by Wm K Walthers at one time, but is now sold out.

To add the diesel sound board to that set is a few connections.  Speaker, track power, and the motor leads to control the prime mover ramp-up sounds.

Nice video.  Welcome back to model railroading.  There is never a bad time to back to trains, however, Christmas time is the BEST time to enjoy them.

   You might want to consider the new RTR Lionel Santa Christmas Train in one of the other posts here on the OGR also.  As SantaFeJim says Christmas is the best time to enjoy your trains, especially Christmas trains.  I have a Christmas Box Car Train that has about 40 Cars, I try to add a Box Car each Christmas season, and I am thinking about investing in the new Hall Mark Lionel RTR Santa Train myself.
