It looks as 'black' as the other two locomotives on the page on my monitor. Surely it will be black?

Lionel has publicly stated that the green on this loco in their 2021 catalog will be darker than the green you're referring to; so it doesn't take much guts to pre-order.

Well, a statement like that probably doesn't carry as much weight as it would if there weren't so many color screw-ups in recent years.

I thought about preordering this as (I model SP and ATSF in the 1947-1951 time frame) but it being a generic USRA Pacific I'd never totally be happy with it. I'll probably find a 3rd Rail SP P-10 Pacific at some point instead.

Lionel missed the mark on the SP Pacific,theonly thing that is Close is the Vanderbilt Tender,very disapointing.

They did say in their Facebook presentation yesterday that they’d get the GN green right... but then Dave called it “cascade green”... which I thought was a BN color?

Peter I agree with you on this one.  Too many variations from the prototype to make it worthwhile.  Lionel has been getting better at these customizations over the last several years, but apparently not in this case.  It is a brass hybrid, correct?  Makes the changes even easier to implement. 

Then again it is catalog art which is famously known for not being what gets produced always.  Maybe a word to Lionel to see if they are going to be generic or if there will be road specific modifications?

I think we all know that, if they fixed the marker light location and painted over the cylinders, the next guy would say, "I can't handle that misplaced air tank and that incorrect reverse gear. It's a deal killer!"

Yup, including specifically multiple Great Northern green screwups, not to mention others.

And yet you guys are willing to go with the BTO scheme!

Nowhere is it stated the O Scale Pacific's in question are Hybrids.

Yeah, but as kids, we wouldn't have paid near a thousand dollars for an engine because we weren't buying "near" scale engines!!  If they want our dough, they got to provide good stuff.
