Hi guys,

I have been looking at Ives 1 3239s and 3240s, but I have a couple questions:

  • For power - I noticed these run on 3-rail track, so would an MTH Z-4000 be fine?
  • Track - One of the things that became immediately obvious, is the limited availability of 3-rail Gauge I track. I see that Gargraves makes 3-rail 'G' gauge flex track: Will this track work or do I need to learn about making my own track?

Thanks,

Alex

One of our Standard Gauge Module Association (SGMA) members discovered that you can make traditional looking Gauge One tubular tinplate track by moving the outside rails of standard gauge track inward, so that the inside tab of the pair that usually holds the outside standard gauge rail is inserted into the center fold of the rail instead.  This is done on both outside rails, and the resulting gauge is 1-3/4", i.e. gauge one.  Both rails are secured by soldering them to the ties.  Simple and easy!  Ties, rails, insulators and track pins are available from USA Track LLC (www.standardgaugetrack.com). Gauge one three rail traditional tubular tinplate track can also be ordered from stores in Germany.
