J3a Hudson Tender Wiring for Railsounds

Not the right product #????  Does mother board have silk screen writing. G

I think the numbers are reversed. Is the cab number 5444? If so, the item number is 28072. Can you take a picture of the boards in the tender? Are all of the wires destroyed? If so it doesn't bode well for the boards.

When I had burnt wiring in the Genset, I saw that no harnesses were listed in the parts fiche for that model. I then found harnesses that I could make up what I needed (number of wires and appropriate connectors) by searching thru hundreds of harnesses I found with the search term "Harness" in the search for Replacement Part Number or Name.

There were two different connector sizes (in addition to number of wires). They were listed in Digikey as 2mm JST PH series and 2.5mm JST EH series. And the pins are different...labeled P0.5 and then P0.6 for the bigger connector. The pictures of the harnesses were difficult to see which connector series is used, but the 2.5 mm have a ridge on the sides and the 2 mm are smooth sides. This worked for me to tell. Although I have the connectors to crimp on, it was worth a few dollars to me to just pull the appropriate sized already crimped on wire with pins and insert them into the appropriate number of wire plug. Kind of a challenge.

It's possible your tender pickups got across two different blocks and the power wire melted the other wires? That would be less likely to have hurt the boards.

You can get pretty close with one of the typical wiring diagrams for similar vintage locomotives with the wireless tether, most of the wiring is the same.  See attached schematic.

I am guessing to melt wire you need power. Suspect the red black wires in the 2 pin black Molex Micro Fit or if a battery is used, those wires. The IR receiver, coupler, and rear lights should be OK unless we are talking actual flames.

Sorry guys I did get the numbers reversed..........it is the 28072 and the wires are so burnt and stuck together I cannot identify what wire goes to where. Thanks for all the suggestions and I will look at each one suggested including the part numbers from Chuck. For Gunnrunnerjohn I too have that wiring diagram and that is the one I will use once I get the harness built. I was able to find several of the different connectors on the Lionel site and between them and Digikey I think I will have what I need........thanks again for all the suggestions.

The 2.5mm connectors are the JST-EH series, and the 2mm connectors are the JST-PH series connectors.  Note that in spite of the fact the pins look similar, they are NOT compatible, you need the correct pins for each series of connectors, they appear at the bottom of the page for each connector shell.  I use the Engineer PA-09 Crimp Tool to crimp these.

Ed take a picture or give a description of what wires have melted together before you start buying tool$$$ and connectors to fix a two dollar part.
