I agree with the statement regarding the MTH tires being better.

Just for reference, the Lionel traction tire P/N 6308071206 has P/N 6101207206 listed as an alternative.

The P/N 6308071206 is 1.00" ID x .046" TH x .118" WD. (out of stock)

The P/N 6101207206 is 1.00" ID x .050" TH x .118" WD.  (in stock currently at the Lionel Parts website)

The MTH tires I have are ~1" ID x .056" TH x .123" WD

Probable will not matter, but at least you now have the information.

I agree with the statement regarding the MTH tires being better. The only problem I had using the MTH tires is they tend to be a bit thicker tire.  So they can come close to touching the break shoes on the steam engines some times.

Thank you for that info Dave. I must have got my numbers crossed because I was coming up with dead ends with the part number search.

Good info on the MTH traction tires!

Well, not in this case.  At least the ones that I have.

IMO, that's not an MTH tire.

I stock hundreds of MTH traction tires, all of them measure about half of that, from around .028 to .032.  I've been using them for years, and I've never seen one that thick, that's a classic Lionel tire thickness.  I go through several hundred traction tires a year, obviously mostly on customer engines.  I'm pretty familiar with the differences between MTH and Lionel tires.

I just checked tires from the DE-0000018 to the DE-0000031 from my stock of new tires, all were within the .028 to .032 range.

I purchased my so called MTH tires from a MTH repair tech at a local train show.  It was my understanding these were MTH tires. All well.

IMO, they are not genuine MTH tires.  I've never seen an MTH tire that thick, and I've been using them for a long time.

Besides Lionel and MTH, who else makes replacement traction tires close to this size?  Are they any better or worse?

Traction tires aren't a big business, not sure if there are other sources.  I've seen them advertised from time to time with no source, but I haven't been tempted to buy any of them.  I'd like to find a source for the narrow tires for brass, that seems to be a market void.
