Just curious , was the JLC line of loco’s the prelude to the visionline loco’s?

Gary, the JLC line came out about 15 years ago.Many will dis agree but IMHO they are the best locomotives Lionel has ever offered. Then Legacy, then Vision line. The JLC locos have amazing detail great functions and are reliable.I get them off the secondary market very affordable. Nick
I think that the short answer to your question is yes as the JLCs are special edition, nicely detailed models but with rather fewer special operating features than offered with VL. Maybe the real precursor to the VL was the Acela set but as anyone will tell you, its groundbreaking operating features were problematic to the point of being a dud for many if not most people. Too ambitious a project for its time.
Going back a bit more, some people think (and I am one of them) that the TMCC operating boom cranes were Vision in all but name; very ambitious products, those, and a raft of special features.

You must be right as the 6-11104 Big Boy was cataloged in 2006 as a JLC model as well as the very first Legacy-equipped loco. Didn’t know it came with a command set.
