Any other K-Line S2 fans out there? I have a handful of the K-Lines, two of the RMT versions, and two of the original model, which was produced br Marx (including my Dad's 1998 UP switcher, along with the rest of the set that it came with).  I even have this one. It's a kitbashed centercab switcher that I made from an S2 and spare shell. The pic of the two shells cut apart and reassembled clearly shows where I sectioned the shells, to make the loco. I wanted to maintain use of the original shell mounting screws, so the overall length needed to stay the same as the original shell. It's not modeled after any particular prototype, but I think it came out ok. The only mod I made to the mechanism was to add a light bulb at each end, instead of the one original bulb in the cab.

I'm a fan of your work above, and of the Marxist/etc Alco S-2. I have researched bashing a Lima road switcher (they were rare; they look a lot like Alco RS-1's, but with a lower, slimmer hoods) by using K-Line/Marx/RMT bodies if they could be found. Probably need 3. The body and cab contours are not too far from the Lima's.

I have a NYC RMT version. A lot more handsome and realistic-looking than it has a right to be, undersized and all. I also have a powered/dummy Marx pair on the shelf. The running gear/trucks look good, and is an example of Marx cleverness.

fantastic! the little engine that could!

Thanks everyone for the kind words! I actually joined this site back in 2021, but just got around to posting some of my trains. I guess I should add that I also converted the S2 couplers to the "frame mount" variety. The end pilots are Lionel GP7/9 pilots, with the part that attaches to the trucks cut off, and then attached to the frame with ".188 spacers between the frame and pilot.
