I just purchased a NIB K-Line shay, and cannot figure out how to turn on the sounds. I'm using legacy control, and set up for a TMCC locomotive per the Lionel video. The loco runs, the lights light, the couplers fire, but no sound. I have the sound switch set to full, and the volume control on the PCB turned to max (the user manual mentions a volume control on the bottom of the loco, but I couldn't find one). I disconnected the legacy base from the track and pulled the power to it so I could run in conventional, but still no sound.

When I was operating in conventional mode, I had to open the throttle on the CW-80 to full voltage to get the shay to move, and then it was only creeping along.  With either conventional or legacy power, the shay caused the Fastrack remote switches to "chatter" when it passed over them.

I did try to do a factory reset following the user manual instructions; however, when it says press Aux1 then 4 I can't do that since the numeric pad goes away when I press Aux1.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much. I was afraid I'd have to buy a CAB1L just to reset a TMCC locomotive.

The reset had no effect on the lack of sound or other issues. The fact that it runs poorly on conventional power, makes Fastrack switches "chatter" when it crosses them, and produces no sound makes me think this is an electronics problem, so I'm sending it to a repair shop for K-Line locos.
