Look closely at the cab in the picture of the Lionel E6 and you can readily see why O scale diesels with vertical dual motor "China drives" can not be as good looking as they otherwise could have been if they employed a horizontal single motor drive.  Lionel, MTH, and AtlasO use view blocks in the cab area to hide the motor  and it kills the look of the cab.  In the case of the E6 the cab wall should be behind the side doors - not well forward  of them.   Thank goodness  when Sunset 3rd rail  entered the plastic diesel market Scott chose a single motor drive architecture like Key has used for years.

Alternatives are available, to those with deep pockets.

I've been using the LokSound for 3 years and I love em. I've got em in most of my HO & N scale stuff and got a couple of Select Ls on deck for some 2 rail I'm getting. I just ordered the ECoS a month ago and can't wait to get it. I'm super stoked to go 2 rail for the universal control, lack of 3 rail compromises and the across the board better look
