Also posted are examples of GM&O "Abraham Lincoln" and Northern Pacific "North Coast Limited" in the current WEEK-END PHOTO FUN thread.  These are repaints of newer LIONEL smooth-sided 15" aluminum cars.  I doubt there is any difference in applying paint to PW aluminum cars compared to newer aluminum cars.

 

The primary limiting factor, apart from the availability of O scale decals from Microscale and other vendors, in painting PW aluminum cars is they are all essentially fluted sides.  There are "flat" channel PW cars, but they newer smooth-sided cars seem to be more prototypical.

 

I'm going to look for some prototypical Texas Special photos on the web since some of the models that have been offered recently seem to have at least some fluting on the sides.

 

Excellent topic; hoping for lots of photos, prototype pictures, etc. in replies.
