I recently received my copy of this latest offering in a series by the New York Central Historical Society on NYC’s big steam.  Like the other books by Thomas R. Gerbracht, what an amazing resource for fans of the NYC L-3 & L-4 Mohawks. The many pictures alone are amazing let alone the vast amount of technical information, including blueprints.

I have an NYC L-3c by MTH that I enjoy running but would enjoy seeing other’s L-3 or L-4 Mohawks, or anything related to these steam engines. We are fortunate to have a real one in Elkhart Indiana also.  Please post your Mohawks- let’s see them!

Two of the Central’s L3a class sit waiting to make their way to the ready tracks at Harmon....3010 Was a Lionel 18009 L3 Mohawk, outfitted with large Pittman, 4 chuffs, fan smoke in rhythm, darkened drivers and rods, and upgraded valve gear courtesy MTH, ( there is none from Lionel) and a modern sound system with twin speakers.....one of the many Mohawks for Harmon to be proud of.....behind her sits 3005, ( Lionel 18064) again, brought up to today’s standards but retains stock sounds ....both sport very large Pittmans ....both of these workhorses already have enough logged hours on this layout to make most operators puke up their shoes........the NYC saw fit to put millions of miles on their motive power...I shall follow prototype practices.....service intervals for my roster of 18009’s & 18064’s are measured in the hundreds of hours....yes, they run that much...😉
