Question:     Our layout will be L-girder construction with the use of cleats and risers. My sister just had her bathroom remodeled and has a good amt of scrap material left over.  It is of 2 types:

1)  MDF boards:  11/16 thick x 3 1/2" wide x 12" or greater long.  Finished white on 2 sides.

2)  v grooved shiplathe siding - if i rip it to cut out the v grooves and tongue & groove areas are:  Pine  11/16" thick x 2 3/4" wide x  >1'  (greater than 1 ft)

Are there any structural issues and/or long term issues with using these materials for cleats and risers.  I realize i'll have to rip them to appropriate  widths / lengths.

Thank You.
