I figure I will start a new layout topic. I had a layout about 4 years ago but due to things that came about I had to take it down and sell some trains. But alas here I am back and ready to tackle a bigger and better railroad!

I think I finally have a track plan that I am happy with and will have room for plenty of fun and neat scenic details.

I kept everyone updated very well with my last layout and I am planning to do the same. Right now it is 2 separate bedrooms but Dad owning a Dry Wall business helps so he is coming over in a few days to help me take the wall out. Im going to end up re painting it and hanging new train lights.

Right now its still on the drawing board but everything is coming together so far "fingers crossed".

I will be using Gargraves Track and Ross switches again since I really enjoyed them the last time I used them. This uses 072 on the outer main line and a mix of 054 and 072 on the inner second main line. The room when combined will be approximately 23' x 10' with a hallway closet that is staying on the bottom middle so thats what the gap is there for and the door way of course.

Special thanks to Carl (Moonman) and Dave (DoubleDAZ) for help with emailing back and forth the layout plan and moral support haha! They both have helped me tremendously with SCARM and I can't thank them enough!

Enjoy!

Some of the track arrived today and the bridge. I ended up changing a few things on the track plan and I’m sure there will be more.

Local hobby shop had a consignment of a used Ross double crossover and it was a too good of a deal to pass up so adding that in place of the other cross over switches.

The wall is coming out this weekend in the room so I can move onto paint and get started on bench work.

Got the bench work started today. I am going to be using my take on a L girder style, with a different approach because it works in my case. Have to go buy some more 1x4s but everythings turning out level and im liking it. Also a quick video to give a walk around and show that the other door is blocked on purpose since i've been asked so many times lol. Thanks for looking!

Small update tonight, test fitting the 1 bys. Had to make a trip to Menards for a few more pieces of lumber and a few other things. Few adjustments yet and I’m going to mark all of them once I’m happy with the level before I take them out to run wire holes thru. Don’t mind the horrible spacing, that’s not where they are going exactly haha. Think I’m going to run a string end to end to square the fronts of them up. I’ve been moving things around etc. That’s all for today’s update. Thanks!

I got my new “smart” dimmer switches installed for both sides of the room. Couldn’t find a light plate I could use for my situation with a 2 gang box so I 3D printed them and like how it turned out. Going to sand it some and paint it. Hopefully have more pictures for you all this weekend.

Also worked with Dave some more and tweaked the layout plan some and got it to where I like it. Now it will have all 072 on the lower level both inside and outside loops and the second picture shows a potential elevated loop for future expansion. Still playing with some things on the elevated track so that’s a work in progress. Also added a siding on the inside line and added where the Dual Engine shop will be.

Thanks!

Lancer:

Great idea to add an upper level! Consider making it a passenger train loop with an automatic stop-and-go station at the midpoint -- well suited for a commuter line with Budd diesel commuter cars or a unique train like the MTH Aerotrain - the Rock Island version of which ran a route from Joliet to Chicago and return.

The loops at each end of the elevated route could be designated as a suburban zone on the left and "downtown" on the right.  Or ... allocate one zone as a farm/ranch and the other as an industrial district. There are lots of available structures that would be appropriate to these zones.

Carry on, valiantly ...

Todays update brings new LED lighting and went and picked up some Homasote. Starting to piece it together. I used the recommended Bosch knife blade in the jigsaw and it cut it like butter with very very minimal dust. I highly recommend getting some! They were clearanced at my Menards so I got the 3 pack for $7.

The lighting looks great Lance!!  I was looking for the Bosch knife blade at both Lowes and Home Depot last week, and neither had them.  What were they thinking!!    At Lowes, the toilet part I bought had all Spanish writing on the outside container.  The checkout lady had trouble scanning it and said it shouldn't have been delivered to the Butler, Penna store.  They had instructions in Spanish on the front page and English on the back page.  I'll need to look online tomorrow.  Too bad a Menards isn't close by.
