Trying to create my first lash-up ever and ran into a problem  Using my CAB 1-L & Base 1-L and two TMCC engines, the front engine will not get into the lash-up.  Finally tried each engine by itself and created a "train" with only one loco.  I can create the rear position and it works fine.  They both acted like the Rear engine should.  Then did the same thing trying to put each of them in a one engine "Train" as the front engine, and it would not take, with either loco.  So, I am wondering if the Base 1-L has a problem.  Any ideas of what to try would be appreciated.   Thanks.

Bucky,

We need a lot more details of your issue. What train number are you using? What are the engine numbers and what are they? Steam or diesels? Are you reversing direction of the rear engine if diesels. I have never used the Cab-1L system but am assuming it is similar to the original Cab-1 remote but need more info from you. A video of the engines and your lash up procedure would help too. You maybe skipping a step if its your first lash up.

The lashup being tried was with two WBB 44 Tonners, each powered by a Mini Commander 2.  Train numbers tried were 5 through 9 (1, 2, 3 and 4 were assigned other duties.)  When programmed as a "Train" with just one engine, both accepted the REAR position when programmed ("Dir" pressed before "Set" in the programming process, and performed as a REAR diesel would regarding the headlight and coupler. However neither would accept the "Front" position in a lashup.

I took the Mini Commander 2 out of one of the engines and temporarily installed a Cruise Commander, leaving the shell off.  I was then able to program a lashup with the cruise controlled engine in the front position.  That leads me to believe the Mini Commander 2's don't work in lashups.  Thanks.

I have the Cab 1L and have done lashups or consists using the Mini-2s. The only problem I found was the Mini-2s would not accept the lighting operation or sounds. I contacted Jon who headed up ERR at the time and he explained the coding of the Mini-2 wasn't totally compatible with the Cab-1L. I will have to go back through my posts to try and find the conversation. If I remember correctly I found a way in programming the Mini's that made them work as a consist.. including the lights.

I found in my mail the initial conversation I had with Jon and will try now to attach.

I have to look further to find solution I worked out.

Ray,

I was able to duplicate the issue here.  It seems that because the Cab1-L is sending out extra commands for sound system control that are for legacy locos, the Mini Commander 2 software is unable to process the TRain assignment.  I will investigate the Mini Commander 2 code, but that of course does not help your setup.  Sorry.

I am not sure when I can implement a fix, but it may take a while due to my schedule.   In general, the Mini Commander 2 is designed for small vehicle control and small locos.  Lash-up considerations for this sort of application are quite minimal.  Basically, I consider this concern a low priority.

Bucky,

I found the solution that I was able to get the lash-up done with, will past it to this reply.

This should get you set running a lash-up with the Mini-2s

Jon,
I have been conversing back and forth with Ken at ERR, I was wondering about the size of the Cruise Commander Lite to find if it would fit into the locomotives that I have with the Mini 2 boards. It looks like they will fit into everything except a couple of American Models GP 35's that I have. As I want to keep these two GP's in Command Control I tried some reprogramming of the lash ups using these engines as front and rear end engines in the lash up and found that if both the front engine and the rear engines were programmed with the R and the appropriate direction set for each engine the front and rear engines lights worked as they should. I am going to  give you a list of the engines I used and the commands as I programmed the lash up. The lead engine is the only engine that needed to be programmed in a different manner than is instructed the Cab 1L manual. All of these engines have the Mini 2 boards installed.

The engine numbers, 55 which will be lead engine facing forward, 07 facing forward, and 28 facing forward.

Programming in this manner solved the problem that I had encountered with the lighting, it is a bit more involved but I feel worth the effort and it keeps the Mini 2 as an option for us folks in S gauge. If power to the layout is lost or shut down, after the power is restored and before the lash up is addressed the front engine, in my case 55, will have to be addressed once more and its direction changed or when the lash up is addressed the front engine will start in the opposite direction.

Thank you for the attention you have given this matter and I hope this might help others.
