Layout is coming back to life

That's a change alright, looks good.  It's tough tearing out work but if it's for improvement or needed changes then what the heck...good work.

Thanks. I decided to put in tie plates and rail joiner bars when I relaid the track. What kind of rail joiners did you use? Mine don't seem to show up as much on each side of the rail as yours do. Ken

Hi Ken, are you talking about the insulated joint bars or the regular ones??  They both came from Lou at Right O' Way.

 

The insulated ones are in the photo in the thread I started, these are the regular ones at the bottom of this picture.

Ok cool I have been using Grandt Line. I have some ordered from Lou. I think I like them a lot better.

Having seen both I like Lou's product better as well.

Glad to hear that Patrick. Funny how that works your post on your Yahoo group is what got me moving to put the tie plates in which lead to what you see in the pics. The 40 inch long trestle is next.

Hey Patrick that is funny.  I am the same way, others work always inspires me to move forward.  Since I switched to the 2 rail world I really enjoy seeing what comes next from everyone.  Heck John Sethian and Christopher N&W's layouts are what made me switch over...now yours is making me think I should have gone P48 also...

 

Ken I can't wait to see the trestle.

I thought long and hard about P48 vs NMRA track standards. In the end I chose NMRA with the same attention to detail as P48 modelers have. This will save the time and money converting cars and locos it will also allow others in my area to run their equipment on my layout.

It was a logical choice for me.  The layout is small, very specific, and linear.    Not too many buddies going to run their MTH Dash 9's on it.  I like what you guys are doing alot...and I dont hear any complaining from anyone lately which makes it nice around here.

 

Tell us about the trestle. 

I appreciate the comments you guys make between one an other as to the progress of your various projects. I stay very busy with my railroad and it's multitude of projects I'm working on. But I don't tend to post until I have what I consider something useful to offer. I get busy and don't bother to photo stuff until late in the game, thus inspite of the new forums easy picture posting I have few to share. Trust that I'm up to all the same stuff as you all are...just in my quiet mode...

I personally like to see peoples progress and how they got to where they are.

I also like to see others progress via photos.  I hardly post pics anymore and I absolutely hate cross-posting.  Most of my progress goes onto the yahoo group. 

I am pumped to find other guys who are in the same place that I am. Never thought I would find "like minded" people on a forum run by primarily three rail folks.

Patrick has a yahoo group for his layout. I have thought of starting one for mine. It is easier than a web page and if it is your group about your layout you don't have to put up with the some people drag around with them.

Nice Paul I am trying to work a triangle building into my layout

I used one Korber model to do it, by using all the pieces on the front and hiding the back with black masonite.

Whenever I take another long look at HO (and I have seen some of the photos you've posted of the HO empire you had built), I am always glad to see your photos (and the small track radius you have hidden at one end) as it motivates me.

I just acquired a used Fast Tracks jig, tools, and supplies and am making some code 125 turnouts. Pointless in HO when Peco offers such nice code 83 ready-made turnouts but part of the fun in 2R.

Paul thats a great use for that building......they are pretty cheap too. I will have to pick up a few of those as they can be made into a lot of different things.

I am really impressed with the workmanship that went into the turnout jig as well as the detailed instructions provided by Fast Tracks. It's step-by-step with photos so even I might be able to do it!
