LCCA 2012 convention car

Bill,  we have been told by Lionel that they should be shipping soon from China.  We are also very frustrated and dissapointed.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.  

 

Here is what we have posted on our website for the past few months now.

 

 

Update on the 2012 LCCA Convention Car (4/11/2013)

The prototype was present and approved at the Red Carpet event at the Lionel NC facility (March 22/23) and was released to the production plant.  Lionel has said that it will delivered to the LCCA Mid to late June.  The LCCA will distribute cars as soon as received, to be received by members before July.  Each member who purchased this unit will be receiving a set of three billboard inserts personalized with their name for each car ordered.  Make sure your mailing address is correct in our club records.  Although we were provided a "for sure" delivery date, this product will be shipped sooner if the product arrives sooner.  We have asked Lionel to accelerate delivery.

Thanks Al for the response. Reason for the question, the Lion Roars that came in the mail yesterday stated on page 13 " They will hit our shores in late May and be sent promptly to members who ordered the unique car."

Thank you.  The lead time from article submission to publishing and delivering TLR to our members is substantial.  It is about a two month process.  One advantage of our website is that it gives us the ability to provide more current information to our members.  I suggest that you designate www.lionelcollectors.org as one of your favorites.  This way  it will be easier and more conveniant to use.  We can provide more current info and videos on this site.  Thanks again for your patience and support.

Dear LCCA Powers That Be,

 

Due to the sheer fiasco that has fallen out of this car, I have not renewed my LCCA membership, nor did I order a 2013 Convention Car.  It is July 24, and I have not received any billboards nor the car yet.  And truly honestly, at this point I could care less if I receive the car.  What is the point in ordering something, and then having multiple shipping timetables quoted, to only be met with disappointment each time.  I will gladly pay more money for product to be made in the USA, than to buy something that is made in China.

calm down, delays happen in today's world. The Lcca did not want it to be late but it happened because they wanted it right. I applaud them for it. 

 

Al, Lou and Lionel and the rest of the Lcca team do a fantastic job of getting great products to the members of the Lcca.

 

Please renew you membership in the best club in O gauge.

 There are guys waiting 2 or more years for some engines that are suposed to be made.

 

The clubs have no control over manufacturing of these cars.

 

I saw them in Chattanooga and they are GREAT. Will still buy it if not wanted

I appreciate your input, being that you are one of the most respected members of the forum.  I understand the desire to not deliver an item late, however, from the perspective of someone who has not been exposed to waiting years for an item to arrive, waiting a year plus for a freight car, seems rather extreme.  If its going to take so long, then why put a delivery date on the item.  Just leave it open-ended, and tell people, it will arrive when it arrives.

 

Regarding renewing my LCCA Membership, I honestly did not find any incentive to having the membership.  Attending conventions is presently not possible, so I'm not sure what gain there is to having the membership?

 

 

Waiting 2+ years for an Engine is NUTS!!!  I'm not selling the car, whenever it eventually arrives. I bought it b/c I served, and it is a great tribute to all those who have served.

I agree with what has been said above with regard to the realities of market delays.

Like you, I would prefer a US production. I do applaud Lou and Al for the great products the LCCA has brought here. In the future, we'll just assume they arrive when the product is done right. That is my focus.

If you have noticed on other threads how many high priced engines from different manufactures arrive DOA to buyers.

 

I don't mind waiting longer as long as the product is made right.

 

Other clubs have also had long waits for club and convention cars.

 

When you receive the car I'LL BET YOU WILL REJOIN.

Billboards? What billboards? I ordered the 2012 car, from the LCCA website in late November 2011. I have an E-mail conformation. I've never heard anything about billboards.

You guys complain like little kids about not getting a toy when YOU want it - then you get it, look at it or run it a little and that's the end of it - BIG THRILL. 

 

Then another car comes along AND you HAVE TO HAVE IT  - so the cycle starts again.

 

GEE - that's a shame......... Keep your money - the LCCA wants legitimate train enthusiasts - not cry babies.

Mine came today .. the ad photos do no justice .. its magnificent..  WELL WORTH waiting for... Good show Al / Louie and whoever else was involved .. This car will be in high  demand on the secondary market real soon ....

Mine arrived today, too.  It is a beautiful car.  I collect Lionel PS-1 boxcars.  This one is very unique.  The illuminated eagle eye and stars at cool.  The ETD is very neat looking.  Well done LCCA!  This car was definitely worth the wait.  I've posted several photos of mine, on the 3rail forum.
LCCA...thank you for the coolest PS-1 boxcar in my collection.

I was just thinking how incredibly sharp a string of these cars would look being pulled by the NS Veterans diesel (whenever Lionel or MTH offers that locomotive).  Of course, getting a string of these boxcars would be somewhat illusive since I'm pretty sure LCCA members were only able to purchase 2, correct?

 

I was not an LCCA member at the time... so if anybody has an extra one they don't need, please let me know.    Many thanks!!!

This photo at the Kensington, MD  Train Show yesterday shows the LCCA 2012 convention car on the rear of the freight on track one in the staging yard. The car attracted a lot of attention and proved to be very popular. One guy said he'd pay $200 for one. Not for sale, though.

 

 

Looks like a good show.  How was it?  Thank you for supporting  the LCCA and purchasing your 2012 LCCA Convention car. We are glad you and the others enjoy it.

Al, It was a fantastic show. Kids all got a free train whistle. There was dixieland music the first day, and a folk singer with RR songs the second day. Lots of other displays, and an N-gauge layout as well. Good attendance and I think the Historical Society and Library got some good support. The armory was about 1 block from the CSX (ex B&O) mainline, so of course we had to have some CSX power. Here's an I-phone movie of my CSX SD-80 on a mixed freight, with the LCCA car in its usual position. It drew lots of nice comments, and I know it will see lots of track time.
