For the first time in the history of the York Train Show, there will be an operating railroad in the Orange Hall Foyer.  Brought to you by the Lionel Collector Club of America (LCCA) and the Mohegan Pequot 3-Railers (MPRR), Preston CT, this kid friendly and interactive railroad is built to impress – children of all ages.  Highlighting one of the newest and fastest growing communities in O-Gauge Model Railroading, the LCCA/ Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad System is opening the world of model railroading to the all generations. Whether you are a career model railroader that is looking to a new project, a young adult looking to start a model railroading empire, or family that is looking to share your love of trains with those closest to you and your surround community this is the railroad to see at this York!

On display for public enjoyment the MPRR 3-Railers' 14'x23' modular railroad consists of twenty modules, three operating rail lines and over a dozen visitor/ children-controlled accessories. For many children and families, the highlight of the show will be the opportunity operate one of the two Lionel LionChief or LionChief Plus locomotives moving around the O72 and O84 mainlines at near warp speeds. Drawn in to the sights and sounds of fast moving trains the low table height of 31" allows kids to fully enter the world of this model railroad like no other railroad since Kids Run Trains setup a railroad in the White Hall in the Spring of 2016.

Please don't be concerned.  There are no barriers and there are no signs warding off youngsters from falling in love with the World's Greatest Hobby.  This is done by design! Peer and parental supervision is required for the safe operation of this railroad, though history tells the MPRR 3-Railers that most likely cause of a derailment is loose fitting clothing often worn by adults.

Finally, if you are interested meeting with the LCCA's National FasTrack Modular Railroad Coordinator, Kevin Davis, he will be on site from open to close answering questions and sharing his love of Lionel Trains and modular railroading.

LOL! I guess Operators have been warned not to bring their GGD Pa's and Passenger Sets to run on this layout!

I am not aware of anyone looking to bring a GGD locomotive to run on the layout. However, I plan on running the following locomotives:

1) Lionel LionChief Pennsylvania Flyer with BlueTooth

2) Lionel LEGACY NS SD60 lash-up; First Responders and Veterans

3) Lionel LionChief Plus NH Rectifier

4) Williams Chuggington Wilson

Historically, there are a few derailments at every show. Almost all of those derailments have been on the outer mainline. Seldom do outer mainlline derailments impact trains on the inner mainline. I also blame 95% of those derailments on adults who are not mindful of their clothing (e.g. loose fitting shirts, jackets, and such).  Since most of those accidents caused by adults clothing are precursed by the intent to talk to club members on the inside of the railroad, MPRR has learned to operate the trains from the outside of the Railroad using Lionel LEGACY.

Kids are most certainly not the biggest risk to the trains - just in case had any thoughts of that.

Oh yeah!  All those kid operated accessories keep the kids smashing the beautiful big blue arcade buttons.  Why would a kid grab a train if they can smash buttons?!?!

Portions of this Railroad have been to dozens of shows up and down the east coast.  Rather than physically engineering solutions MPRR has focused of social engineering solutions to common people induced problems.  IT WORKS!!

Has there ever been a Boy Scout Railroading Merit Badge station at York?  Model railroads at events such as York provide an environment at which the scout can work on his badge.  John

Rattler21,

I have not heard of an individual or a group bringing an switching problem to York.  Historically, most clubs are not willing to let children play with their trains, supervised or otherwise.  I do know that the Mohegan Council in SECT does an annual rail safety event in Norwich, CT where kids get together to work on the railroading merit badge.  I was not in attendance at last years event though I did hear that it was a success.

I originally intended for this set of modules to be able to act as a stand alone switching problem and I believe that it could still be used as such.  However, after talking to the members of Kids Run Trains I determined that the best way to attract kids to the hobby was to let the kids run the trains FAST!  So I let the kids run the trains FAST!

I'm looking forward to studying the layout.  I recently purchase the template and will look to make a few modules with some friends.

Marty,

Please stop on by and bring your friends.  I have built over 35 FasTrack Modules at this point and I have a learned a lot about the entire process.  I will be happy able to answer any questions you might have.

Additionally, it is my hope that in future York Train Shows individuals will be able to bring their modules together to build a super railroad that is BIG!  Perhaps you, your friends, and your modules will be able to join MPRR in the fall?

If you would like to help me setup, breakdown, or operate the railroad send me a PM.

REALY  ????     This is York we are talking about . I think everyone there knows how to handle trains. !!!!

This is false. The problem is that everyone *thinks* they know how to handle trains. Nevertheless, if they're not yours, keep your grimy hands off!  Especially the high end stuff. You may know what you're doing, but the guy who bought it doesnt know that, and still probably doesnt want you touching it, even if it seems like you're helping.

Its also not the first time there's been a layout in the orange hall. Over the last several years they've off and on had a layout over in the room behind Mianne Benchwork where the tool guy usually is.

BoilerMaker,

I don’t dare press the rules of the show. However, my mother taught me not to touch anything that I am not ready to replace it after it crashes to the floor. It’s a good rule and has served me well for a few short decades.

You are right. There was a typo in the original post. This will be the first time a railroad will be setup in the foyer of the Orange Hall. The railroad will be setup around the corner from the TCA booth.

Great catch and I look forward to meeting you and many others in just a few short weeks.
