LCCA Introduces New Lower Price Membership Category!

The Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) is proud to announce the creation of a new category of club membership, designated Electronic Membership (EM), effective April 1, 2014.   New LCCA members may chose to join the club as EM’s at a reduced rate of only $25/year with the same rights and privileges as the current LCCA Regular Members (RM’s).

LCCA President Dennis DeVito is proud to introduce this new membership category and allow current members the option to access to the club magazines digitally while reducing the cost of membership.  “This new EM classification will appeal to an emerging generation that prefers to gather news and information primarily from the internet”

This new category allows for people who desire to have digital access to the award winning LCCA Club publication, 'The Lion Roars', the Junior Member Publication, 'The Lion Cub', on-line and LCCA trading magazine, the 'Interchange Track' to use new catalog software in the Members Only section of our website www.lionelcollectors.org.  EM's will not receive hard copy printed publications delivered by the USPS.  All EM’s will have full access to e-track, the electronic version of our club publication “Interchange Track” and to all areas of our website www.lionelcollectors.org including the Web Store.

This new membership category is available to all new LCCA members AND to existing members who chose to change their membership classification at time of their renewal.   An EM can upgrade their membership to a RM status at any time, but a RM can only change to becoming an EM at time of membership renewal.

There is no change for any LCCA Regular Members (RM) and Junior Members (JM).  These members will continue to receive their hard copy publications, plus have access to the electronic files in the Members Only Section on our Website.

We feel this new, optional Electronic Membership category will allow the LCCA to appeal to a younger web savvy audience and will be vital to our long term success and sustainability of the club.   We are always looking for ways to improve our club and enhance the membership experience by adding additional value to our members.  The Train Hobby is changing, and new hobbyists have different preferences than many of us more seasoned individuals.  The LCCA is reaching out to these new hobbyists as well as maintaining the benefits and features of regular membership

The LCCA is also actively seeking new LCCA Junior Members (JM’s) who are members under the age of 18 years.  If you know of someone who is under 18 years old and has an interest in Lionel Trains specifically and toy trains in general, please consider sponsoring or provide them with a gift membership into the LCCA.  (The cost of the JM membership has been recently reduced to $25.00 per year).

I welcome all new LCCA members and appreciate the continued support and participation of our current members.   It is our members that make the club such a worthwhile organization to belong to.  Thank YOU!

Sincerely,

Al Kolis

LCCA  President Elect and Special Events Manager.

Another outstanding idea from LCCA.  I for one would like to reduce the amount

of paper coming into my home.  This will work for me.  Thanks.

I just renewed withing the last 2 months.I don't remember seeing that option? Otherwise I would have gone that route. Less paper in the house.

Chris,  this is brand new.  It was not an option a couple of months ago.  At your renewal time, you can switch  over to becoming an Electronic Member (EM)

Al,  I'm in the process of renewing my membership as we speak.  And it's not 100% clear to me how I would change from an RM to EM membership.  The online renewal form automatically fills in the $35 fee, and the only options I seem to have are how to pay the membership fee (i.e., credit card info, etc...).

Did I miss something???

Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

David

P.S.  No big deal if I need to renew at $35.  I was just trying to take advantage of the new EM membership fee, since I'm quite happy to browse the newsletter electronically.

Dave,

Please give us a couple of days to investigate and fix the situation.  Additional information will follow.

Al,  thanks for looking into this.  If it can't be fixed right away, no big deal.  I have no problem renewing this year for the $35 RM and then switching over next year to the EM membership.  The LCCA is certainly worth the extra $10 donation!!!    I just wasn't sure if I was missing something in the renewal process.

This very well may be the shape of things to come. TCA should take a lesson from this but that organization seems to be fixed on running an old  outdated business model that seldom, if ever, changes, evolves or improves

There is no comparing the LCCA and the TCA. They are completely different organizations.  Nuff said.

The LCCA is proud to offer options on how members can best enjoy the club and their access to club news.  Some of us like things the way they are.  Others favor changes made possible by technoloy.  We all remember "different strokes for different folks", and should remember "have it your way".  The LCCA believes that it and the hobby prospers when advances in processes and technoloy can be shared with members.

At this time, a member who is currently a regular member (RM) who wishes to become an electronic member (EM) must do so by contacting the business office either directly via e-mail (office@lionelcollectors.org) or by printing out and sending back (scan, USPS, etc) a renewal form.  This form is available at the LCCA web site membership page.  Software and programing revisions are being developed to allow on-line changes in membership, and will be announced when ready.

The next issue of The Lion Roars and the IT will be released and available in catalog format in the 'members only' section of the web site.  Both RM's and EM's have unlimited access to these issues.

The LCCA encourages members who prefer on-line only publications to become EM's and those who like the touch and feel of paper to remain RM's.  Remember, to change membership classifications, you must renew through the business office.

New, first time members to the LCCA can apply on-line for either an RM or an EM member at https://www.lionelcollectors.o...ber-application.aspx.  This is also the page where Junior Members can apply for membership at the same cost as an EM member.  Gift memberships must be processed through the business office.

Thanks to all our members, RM's and EM's for their continued support of the LCCA!

Hi Dennis, this is a great idea. You guys are doing an outstanding job for the club. But, for now I am one old timer who still likes the mag in my hand.

Mario,

Thank you for your feedback.  This is exactly why the EM is entirly optional.  We recognize it may not be for everyone, and we do not want to alienate any of our current Regular Members.   For those who have an interest in web based publications, this is an another option avaiable to them.   It really is a matter of preference and personal taste.  We hope this option will help enhance the membership experience and add value to some of our current and new members.   I too like to read and re-read our hard copy publications, but we recognize the need to have this Electronic Membership option available to our members.   There is a whole new generation of people who have never subscribed or  read a hard copy newspaper.   Their only source of news information is web based.  We hope this entirely optional membership meets the needs of our members in both schools of thought and preference.

If anyone wants to join the Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) please go to the " Join the club" tab on our website www.lionelcollectors.org.  The on-line membership application has been updated to include the new Electronic Membership category.
