Not mentioned. They also talked about some future Harry Heike buildings for 2012, 2013 and 2014. They talked about the Fruit stand, which if its the one I saw at York, Holy Toldeo.

Funny thing about that commodore, I sent a note to MTH a while back about doing a comet series , you know red comet, silver commet, orange comet, lemoncomet black comet green comet etc...

Now LCCA is doing a blue one. hmmmm.
Bill,

They look like either 613,614,615 or 2613,2614,2615 cars. To date they have only surfaced with a blue 263E or a black 226E. Another thing is that the tender coupler height does not match up up the cars. What you have is a mismatched loco/tender combo mated to these cars.

Dave's book is long out of print (ISBN 0-89774-394-8). The secondary market price is $200 and up (used).

Based on the roof clips, underbodies and windows, those are 2600 series cars.

Again my comment: To date,to my knowledge, no authenticated two-tone blue 600/2600 series passenger cars have surfaced.

Colors that are known to exist are:

600/601/602
(Roof/Body/Windows-doors)
Red/Lt Gray/Ivory
Alum/Lt Blue/Alum
Red/Lt Red/Ivory

2600/2601/2602
Red/Lt Red/Ivory (w/ and w/o steps)

Nowhere in TCA's Std of the World, Greenberg's Prewar '0' Gauge book or Doyle;s Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains is there any mention in differences in roof clips, underbodies or windows. What are they?

Ron M has it right.

There is no difference in any details between 600 and 2600 cars. the only difference is MBC versus EBC (electrocoupler) and lettering. The same applies for 613 vs 2613 cars. The 613 and 2613 series are larger cars, 1 1/8th longer, 1/4" taller or so. The belly pans are longer to fill the longer space in the wheelbase of the cars.

What is shown in Bill's photo is 600 series cars behind a 249E with a much lower box coupler

Maybe Ron can back me up here, but my research into these cars indicated the following.

1) a Gunmetal 249 only came with red cars and the tender was a HBC 265T or 265W. These have a higher EBC than the normal 2225 T/W tenders The set was delivered in 1937 only, so the loco drivers would have nickeltires, not rims made from nickel.
2) Lionel never painted the 600 or 2600 cars in Blue Comet colors.... this was for 613/2613 and 700 series premium cars only.
3) couplers on cars look mixed vintage to me, baggage car couplers are definitely too late to be right.

It is a nice color combination however.

Well, I had the cars and the engine, so I just put them together for fun. I know the engine is wrong.

The cars are a mystery. Either an old and well done repaint or a uncatalogued dime store special.

Maybe I'll assign a fake number and price to the set. Nobody over here will notice.

Bill,

What you seem to have is a set of 600/601/602s painted in the "0" Gauge "Blue Comet" colors. Altho the 'cream' bellies and trim 'appears' to be lighter than that of the 613/614/615 on the shelf above them.

So until another set of cars that have provenance, which match yours, the jury is out on the authenticity of these cars.

Where did you get that picture? I'm sure my April Fools post is long gone. The 703 set is on the wall with the rest of my Hudson sets. Note the Wanamaker's charge plate on the shelf in front of the engine.

Looking real close I think they are older repaints. I bought them off the Bay cheap because I thought they were cute. I will replace the tender truck to match. A nice fantasy set. I have about 200 sets on the wall. Eleven of them are pure fantasy combinations that I like with made up set numbers and prices. When you visit you will have fun trying to find them. Some sets are beautiful near mint. Some R & R's (restored and repos). The rest just so so. Any extra cars in my "collection" I just put in sets. They look better longer and, being the only "O" gauge hi railer in China, lets me pretty much do what I want.

Bill, when I saw (Maybe I'll assign a fake number) it jogged my memory about your April Fools joke and I remembered I had save all the pictures from that thread (I think). I wish I had downloaded the thread also because it was hilarious. You really had everyone going with that one including the Wanamaker charge plate and then everything being wrapped in old news papers from the years as you were unloading it from its shipping box.

That had to be the best hoax I have ever seen on the forum and you played it to the max. Smile Smile Big Grin

PS got your email with the thread. Thanks. It was a fun ride. Smile
