LCCA Walking Brakeman Car

Great to see new items for this merger.  BUT - when can we expect some add-ons for the General Locos?  Thought we were getting some smoking boxcars,.  Would be nice to get some cars not seen with the existing General sets?

Hi all, some help needed. Car arrived today, looks nice, but I cannot figure out how to attach the brakeman to the t-shaped pole. Only instructions that came with the car are for turning on or off the switch. Can somone post a photo or diagram on how to attach the brakeman?

Same here! Great looking car, but how does one get the Brakeman to stand properly on top...

The LCCA is really making some "knock it out of the park" rolling stock!  I plan to pick up some LCCA cars at there booth at York this October. 

GUYS there is a thin metal rod that goes up between the legs of the figure.

It is flexible and you should be able to straighten it out.

There is a metal "T" with a moveable cross bar that the Brakeman can sit on. However, every time I sit him on this T, he's simply too loose and falls off.

I have had no success. In fact, there has been a casualty. See photos. I looked between the legs of the figure, and thought I saw a small hole in the part of the body we call the perineum. So, I straightened the "T" and tried to push the small end up into the hole. Could not get it to go and the casualty occurred.

Yes, I admit to being fumble fingered, but this is NOT a good design!

Haven't got mine yet. Will see Tuesday when it arrives.

But having demonstrated the model at YORK and the Convention I stuck that piece up his butt and it worked. Maybe the hole needs widening or lube.

I know it is a new design by LIONEL.

I finally got it. There is a 'slot' in his butt. The slot was not open, so I stuck a pin in and got it cleared. Then, I was able to stick the piece in and all is well... :-)

I had success as well, Kevin. I had to use a small drill. Fortunately, I also had access to a surgeon skilled in head transplants.

Note to other LCCA members: check your man carefully. Make sure there is a slot that is easily usable.

This was really helpful.  My thanks to all.  I had the same problem when the car arrived on Saturday and followed the trail  I found the hole as suggested but had to use a magnifying glass, a pin, tweezers and a second pair of hands from my mom.  

Glad to hear we have all gotten to the bottom of this one, although B&O Bill did lose his head over it....

The LCCA walking Brakeman car is being shipped out now.  Please note the walking brakeman may be a liitle hard to install. There may be a little plastic in the opening, a simple fix, just take a small knife and enlarge it a little, it will slip right in the opening.   Here are some additional instructions:


1.  There is a small slot between the legs of the Brakeman.  Place a drop of lubricating oil into that slot.
2.  Place the car on its side on a towel or other soft surface so you do not damage the graphics and paint scheme,
3.  Grasp the pin that protrudes through the top of the car with needle nose pliers.  You will note the pin is attached to the car mechanism.  Grasp both the mechanism and the rotating pin so that the pin is about perpendicular to the top of the car (you might want to place a tiny bit of oil on the very top of the pin as well).  Slide the figure down over the pin engaging the slot between the legs with the pin.  Push the figure down on the pin until his feet just clear the top of the car.
4. Insert either flag into the holes in the hands of the Brakeman.  Note the flag poles are somewhat flexible.  This intentional feature allows you to insert the flag pole into the holes which may be slightly off center due to the manufacturing processes used.
5.  Place the car on the track and power up per the Lionel instructions.  As long as there is track power the figure will move from one end of the car to the other.  Be sure to test the car on any tunnels or overpasses to be sure you have proper clearance.  
6.  Enjoy!

This car is REALLY neat.  The video emphasizes just how attractive and "fun to run" it is on your layout.  Thanks to the information the Forum I now know how to install the brakeman. No doubt about it, "Up Yours" has a lot of meaning when referring to this car.

I know some clearance is needed, but there's way too much airspace between the figure's feet and the catwalk.

I think I'd try to make the hole deeper in the figure so at least it'll look a bit less like a magician levitating in the air.

Looks a lot like the #7706 Sir Walter Raleigh Tobacco reefer that Lionel did in 1977 and 1978.
