While at York this past fall, I picked up a GP-9 upgrade kit which contains an LCRX board.  My plan was to install it in a MU car to make it command control with electro-couplers.  The install went well.  Couplers work.  If I use conventional bulbs the headlights work fine.  I had wanted to replace the bulbs with LEDs.  I installed a 1 amp diode and 460 ohm 1/4 watt resistor in line with the LED.  The board only provides a single pin to power the front head light and a single pin to power the rear headlight. Return is to frame ground.  I installed the LED and diode with the cathode on the ground side, anode to the power side.

At first, the LED would not light at all.  So installed a .01 uf cap across power pin from the board (for the light) to frame ground.  Figuring I needed a small drain to trigger the triac.  This sorta worked.  The LED will now light, but it acts weird.  If I fire the couplers, the LED may go out.  Changing direction, the front LED goes out and rear LED will not light.  Change direction again, and sometimes both LEDs come on.

I could put the standard bulbs back in and call it a done project but wanted to know if there was something else I could try to get the LEDs to work correctly with this board.

Got it working!!!  To get the LCRX board to work with directional LED headlights, I had to do the following:

For the front headlight (Pin E), I had to wire the diode and LED with cathode to Ground.

For the rear headlight (Pin F), I had to wire the diode and LED with Anode to Ground.

For both outputs, I had to add a .01 uf cap across the respective pin and ground.

Both outputs also included a 470ohm 1/4 resistor.
