When I put the engine on the track in program mode the smoke unit, cab lights and markers light up.  It does not respond to any input on the CAB1.  I took the shell off and found everything plugged in or connected properly.  I put it back on the track and was able to assign.  I did factory reprogram the engine and entered the code as 8.  I think it should have been code #2.  Would this be a problem"?  Engine ran like crap for a couple of feet.

Now it does not respond again and smoke unit, lights and markers light again.  Should I try something else or should I just send it in.  I don't like to send them in, because in some cases similar to this, they come back with a new problem.

Before sending back try calling a Lionel tech. They may be able to walk you through a solution. I know above states there is no code but it's worth a call first. Good luck.

I did.  All they could guess was the program run switch might be backwards.  I tried either way.  I also note, that this was not a problem before it went in.  They should have done just the programming for the flash.  Nothing else mechanically.

If the switch was incorrectly installed at the factory, wouldn't it have shown up when they tested the engine after repairing it?

In theory.  I already dropped it off at FedEx.  My guess is that they did something incorrect when they reprogrammed the engine.  At this point, out of my control.

Here we go again.  Worked fine after getting back.  After sitting on my shelf for about 4 months or so it is unresponsive.   Now it just sits there with the smoker running.  It is weird, I can turn the smoke off with the remote.  No response as far as movement.  It does not give any light flash or anything when assign the id# and press set.   It is deaf and dumb.  I think the reloading of the program was perishable and decayed away.

I am OK with getting this reloaded properly on my dime.  Any suggestions as to where to go with this engine other than Concord, NC?

There is no other place if they are actually doing the real programming, nobody else has the code base.

Thanks John,

I'm not surprised.  I called Katie this morning and she gave me an RMA.  They will sent the mailing label when they reopen.  No word on when.

I hope they get it right this time.  I was not surprised with the memory issue as this probably had a "do you want to save?" that probably was not done right.

The good news is that I only have 1 pre-order MTH and 1 pre-order Lionel on my docket.  After that, my stable should be full.

Due diligence prior to shipping was to remove shell and check connectors and PCB seating.  Bam, pretty as you please, antenna came lose From under roof and fell down on boards.  Reattached and problem solved.

Saves a trip to Lionel.

It sat there for 2 months before.  They are issuing RMAs and will email return label after return to business.  My gut says they will gut through the prior 6-8 week lead time repairs and throttle throughput with the return labels.

John, what do you bet this would have been a 6 month train trip?
