ISSUE RESOLVED !!!!! Legacy Conrail SD70MAC horn honking issue in conventional

I got a brand new Legacy SD70MAC locomotive and it as a strange behavior in conventional mode with CW-80 transformer.

When it start to crawl at low speed the horn keeps honking by itself (at around 12V-13V on the tracks) and it seem to honk at each time I increase the throttle lever until it reach medium to high speed (when more than about 13V on the tracks).

I can still can hear the normal engine and crewtalk/towercom sounds in the background.

I tried other Legacy and TMCC loco with the same transformer and I cannot reproduce the issue.

Any clue ?

is this 6-81141?

at 13-14v the boards are getting enough power

Check the manual to determine if a battery is required for the railsounds in conventional mode

This one may just be more sensitive to the voltage minimum

Its the 6-81140 from a Big Blue set.

Normally the don't need a battery in conventional but as you say, maybe this one is more sensitive.

Dirty pickups, wheels, and/or track is the top suspect. Since others don't do it, clean the wheels and pickup rollers.

I resolved the issue by adding a lighted caboose with my SD70MAC. Now everything work perfectly !!! No honking horn and smooth running loco. I assume some Legacy unit are a bit sensitive with the CW-80 in conventional mode.
