Yesterday I place a newly purchased Lionel GS2 engine on the layout. Went into program mode but could not get the display while pressing the engine button to read engine 1. It just continues to scroll thru the other two engines (both legacy) that I have added to the controller. So I switched the engine back to run and while the lights came on the engine won't move. Thought it was dirty track and cleaned it but to no avail. Place the engine on other areas of the layout and same thing occurs.

Turned off the legacy controller and tried to run in conventional mode and the engine won't move either, lights come on and the most I get is a one click sound .

18 watts of power is being supplied to the track via my MTH 200 watt power supply.

Took it to another track with a 40watt MTH power supply and the engine ran fine in conventional mode even smoked to the timed chuffs.

I recently changed the batteries in the legacy control module with alkaline since my base will not longer charger the batteries (think this has to be returned to Lionel for a fix.

Any ideas; thank you

I'm not sure I'm following your issue 100%. But when you push the engine button on the cab2 it always cycles between your 2 most recently used engines. If you want it to address engine 1, you press engine, then 1 (on the touch screen), then you can press aux 1 or power up button or horn or any of the touch screen buttons I think.

Not at home to test but I think just about any button will fire up the engine once on the ID
Sorry if this doesn't help.
