I know there have been posts regarding the earlier legacy engines (6-28567) where the smoke units will not shut off or will come on upon power up. I couldn't tell if there was a fix. My GP7 smoke unit keeps running after I shut the engine down. I hear the fan running and smoke continues to come out. Sometimes I can turn it off by pressing the smoke off button on the CAB or shutting down power to the track.  Is there a fix for this or will just have to run this thing with no smoke.

I thought he was saying that the smoke control didn't always turn it off either.  I've had TMCC stuff that acted this way, it usually ends up being the smoke voltage regulator module.

Yep, I have a Lionel S-1 Duplex that the smoke unit will not turn off  - via the remote or the switch... it was the voltage regulator module.

The TMCC locomotive regulators are a small module, usually in heatshrink, that are typically loose in the engine.  Some later models actually projected the triac out and bolted it to the chassis for better heatsinking.

The early Legacy ones are usually similar, and they're typically bolted to the chassis as I described.  For this locomotive, here's what's on the product page.  The projection you see on the left is the triac to be bolted down.

Gosh, I do them cheaper than that!

So do I but we do not have a warehouse to support.  I guess the labor rate is $70 or it is targeted at 1.5 hrs.  This is what is going to get at the margins in a few years with no more authorized techs for Lionel.   Just the savings in shipping alone will make a difference.  Once the price of maintaining a train goes up this much, the harder it will be for folks to afford the hobby.  G

Dean, the service manager at Lionel, NC guarantees in writing that the 691ACRG103 will fix this problem - that is if they do the work!

All the early Legacy smoke units did not shut down with the "shut down" button.  It was a pretty major complaint early on.  What they could have done is alter the code in the CAB2 to also issue a smoke unit shut down command.  I can't remember if this was in the rev notes.  Hope it all works out.  I'll be watching for an update.  Thanks for keeping us posted.
