My GP-9 is a work horse, and I run it daily. Last Saturday a little kid grabbed onto a box car while it was running on my layout. When the kid let go of the car the train flew around the track before i could stop it. Now the train only accelerates as soon as you start to move it. I think the flywheel may have been damaged. Any suggestion on how to fix my problem?

I had one of the early Legacy GP7's. It had a similar issue. It ended up being the set screw was loose on the flywheel with the decoder allowing the flywheel to slip on the shaft.
I snugged up the set screw and it never happened again. I can't remember, but the set screw is either a tiny flathead or hex head.
I checked the 2 set screws and they are tight. This unit has two motors, but only one flywheel has the set screws on it. The loco is still flying around the track.

Check all the cables to make sure no wires are broken or cables unplugged. The symptoms suggest either the motor encoder, the wiring between the encoder and the DCDS motor driver board, or the DCDS board itself.
Hey Rob......I think Alex M. hit the "nail on the head" for a solution. I also had that problem, albeit mine was with a Legacy Steam Engine. My problem came about after/ by using the "acceleration" button on my Cab 1. Same thing happened........engine took off like a rocket.....
Sometimes it still takes off, even after a reprogram. Hope yours works normal after a simple reset.
Tried to do the reset, but still no change. Every thing works fine except for the speed
